OK - so the babies wake up around 6:15-6:45am...and I give them their first bottle between 6:30am - 7:00am. It seems that by the end of the day they are so cranky and fussy even knowing they get good naps in -- is this the witching hour? I don't want to move bedtime up any more and I want to get that 4th nap out for the day. Here's an example of what our day is like -- also, when does the witching hour go away:

    6:30 wake up
    6:45 bottle
    8:00 first nap (60 minutes)
    9:45 bottle
11:00 second nap (between 90 - 120 minutes) -- if we are lucky, sometimes we have to put them on their swing to achieve a good nap at this hour
    12:45 bottle
    3:00 third nap (45 minutes)
    3:45 bottle
5:45 - witching hour begins (LOL)
    6:45 last bottle and bed

Those baby einstein videos work wonders for us. If they're being cranky/fussy and I've done what I could to make them happy.. I put one in a bouncy and the other in their flinstone mobile [aka: excersaucer] give them plenty of toys and turn on the video. They are silent by the end of the opening credits

Also, it's like they know it's almost time for bed and get cranky, lol. We have our fair share of those days.

For us, the witching hour was everything from picking them up at daycare at 5:30 (or even shortly before that, since they were often already cranky when I got there) to getting them to sleep at 6:30 or 7:00. Except when they were eating, it was often a screamfest the whole time. It got a lot better (IIRC) around 6 months, or at least the fussing and crying in general got a lot better around then. They still tended to be fussier in the evening than at other times.

it depends with my girls - if they've had a good third nap than they're usually fine until bedtime, but if their third nap is unusually short those last two hours till bedtime can be frustrating. thankfully, DH is usually home from work by then so we each take a baby & entertain the heck out of them. on especially fussy days, i bump their bedtime by 15 min because i usually can't take anymore! :D

i know you said that you don't want to move their bedtime up, but even just 15 minutes can make a huge difference. could you try that? GL!

For the 4th nap I take my twins out-target, BRU, mall, any craft store just to I call it"killing time".They usully would fall asleep in the in the car and would sleep for about 30-45 minutes. They would wake up in the store and just enjoy looking around.

I found the witching time to be when they were much younger. At 6 months I had them in bed by 6:30 and if they were fussy I would make it 6 pm. The one girl would get red eyes and nose and that would be the sign. Are they putting their hands in their mouth ? Could it be teething ? I did find when they were teething that they seem to feel the pain more in the evenings. Give them tylenol when they wake up from their last nap and see if that makes a difference.
