Is this teething?

All right, so my DS has been drooling everywhere, soaking his onesies and has been really fussy before bed, especially before naps. He is inconsolable and will cry for about 15 minutes before falling asleep. Is this him teething? When to the teeth actually start to protrude? I feel awful letting him cry but he cries whether he is held or not so I pat his bum and sing songs. If this is teething should I give tylenol before bedtime and see if that helps? I have a chart on how much the dose should be but how often should I give it and for how long (days consecutive)? I would appreciate any thoughts that you may have. Thank you.

Our boys drooled all the time. I mean all the time when they started and even now - htey ahve 2 teeth. Anyways, we give them tylenol, the infant drops and we give them .8 on the dropper every four hours. For the trouble at bedtime, we are goign through ours not watning their bottles or their bink b/c of their teeth we assumed. We used Baby orajel and within 2 minutes of giving that to them, we have them finishing their bottles and asleep. They were fussy like you said and didnt want to do anything. i would say it sounds like teething to me and try some of the orajel on their gums. Good Luck

**I forgot to add that our boys gums swelled up for about 3 days before the teeth came all the way through. One day we saw them poke through and the next, their gums were swelled. After a few days the swelling went down and there were their teeth.

At his age it could be teeth. Sometimes their gums will look swollen & red, but not always. Unfortunately by the time the tooth comes through and we can say "Ohhh, it was his gums hurting" the pain is over and they are better. A little Tylenol or Orajel wouldn't hurt. Also, you can try putting their little chew toys in the fridge & getting them good & cold, sometimes that will help soothe their gums. I hope he feels better soon, it must be miserable for him (and you). [IMG]

Orajel rocks!! My boys have teeth comming in atm. A little Orajel is enough to get them to calm down and sleep. But yes, it sounds like you've reached the wide world of teething. My oldest started teething around 3 months, but it took another 8 for a tooth to pop up. With my twins, they are at 6 months and already showing teeth. Yikes.

MIne started drooling around 12 weeks (I let them wear bibs and switched out when they got too bad!) and my ds got his first tooth at 7 mos. and dd at 12 mos. 4 days (yep. after a year). SO... unless you see the little bumps (look like tapioca blisters) then they aren't really teething. They are in a oral phase.

Mine used to fuss for 10 min. before they passed out too....no biggie. They learned to put themselves to sleep and I have great sleepers! [IMG]

Mine have been drooling since about 3 months and Patrick who is now 8 months old is the only one with two teeth. Kevin has white bumps under there. It takes a while sometimes.

The drool can be an indicator, but not always... if he is drooling and chewing on anything he comes in contact with, that is pretty much a sure sign.

If a white spot appears within the week or next... it is teething.

Do you notice him putting his fingers in his mouth a whole lot, tugging at his gums? That is an indicator as well.

***Just wanted to add that I never knew this but in a magazine article, it was stated that if a baby is teething, they will sometimes pull on their ears...and you guessed it, our Landon does that when he's teething. I thought "why is he tugging on his ears" and a week later i read that and sure enough, up popped a tooth... you might watch for signs like that as well...
