So all I wanted at one year is for my kids to start moving and talking and now DS NEVER stops doing either...to the point that I am a bit concerned. He is always moving. If he is sitting, the legs are going, or the fingers are tapping..something all the time. He is VERY oral. I just took away is "comfort object" because it was becoming unhealthy--it was his sippy cup. He used to sip that thing all day long and often "zone out" while doing it. Now I see how oral he really is. He has his entire hand in his mouth all day--he sometimes taps his lips with his fingers or just chews and chews. Sometimes it is his sleeves, his coat, anything.

THe talking is non-stop. He tells you everyhing he notices, everything that he wants to do, and if you don't immediately acknowledge what he has said, he will repeat himself until you do. Sometimes in the car he will talk to himself about what he sees out the window or whats on his miond the entire time--like for up 40 minutes!!!

I love him dearly, but sometimes I am worried that it is not normal for him to talk, move and be SO active. THoughts?

Does he have all of his molars yet? I'm guessing that the oral fixation thing could be related to teething pain if he's getting his 2 year molars.

As for the talking thing - it is VERY NORMAL! Andrew will repeat the same thing OVER and OVER again until we repeat it back to him sometimes. Not as much now as 6 months ago, but he still does it. It's like "Look Mommy, this is green" and you have to say "You're right Andrew, it's green" or he will say it over and over again.

I think he's probably just a busy 2 year old!

My DS is EXACTLY the same way when it comes to talking. He talks from the moment he is awake until he goes to sleep. He even talks in his sleep. SERIOUSLY! He says things perfectly clear and never wakes up!

As far as the molar thing goes like Melissa said, I would have to agree. I wouldnt worry too much about it really. Does he use a bottle, pacifier or suck his thumb. If not I probably wouldnt worry too much about it.

I think I remember reading somewhere that kids are into an oral fixation type of thing until 3 or 4 even. Please correct me if I am wrong anyone!

Bea talks non-stop until we are around other people, then she clams up. She also does the repeating everything 10 times until you acknowledge what she said. I'm also thinking teething with putting everything in his mouth. Maybe break out one of the old baby teethers to give him something acceptable to put in his mouth?
