My boys have been shrieking/squealing like crazy! It is deafening and very hard to deal with. Should I be saying "no" or is this just something I have to deal with? We hardly want to take them anywhere lately because it is very loud and annoying!

Lauren does that. She started it around 5 months, and it died down and now it's back and louder than ever! What I do is get right in her face and speak to her in a softer tone, that brings her down to normal tones immediately. I don't do it in an angry way to discipline, I just smile and chat softly and she starts to "chat" back in a quiet voice. It hasn't stopped the shreking by any means but it does halt it when she starts. KWIM?

ETA: She was doing this in the mall one time as we were leaving and a woman in front of me whips her head around as if to see who was beating their child. When I smiled and said "that's her happy voice" the lady smiled and walked on.

I couldn't remember exactly when you delivered but as I read your post I thought, I bet they are 9 months. Then I scrolled down far enough to see your ticker! That is exactly when this happened for K&K, more Kyle than K though. Thank goodness it was a short phase but it sure was a torturous. This too shall pass!!

My girls do this, it perfectly normal. I don't think theres anything wrong with it, their just discoverying their voices. They only time I tell them no is when they are telling me off, or having a fit. If its done while there happy and playing then I let them have fun.

I figured it was normal... I guess I was just wanting to hear it for sure! :D I have told them no, but it's more of a, "No, sir. We don't have to do that. We can just talk together. How about that, kiddo? Wanna talk with Mommy?" KWIM?

Both Allie and Ellie do that! Allie more than Ellie - but she just loves to hear the sound of her voice!

I always used to say "We don't scream inside. We talk quiet inside." All while using a quiet voice. I doubt it even made a difference cause they were about 8-10 months at the time but I felt better and people saw that I was doing something about it when we were out. Sometimes just acknowledging them and taking their mind off it helped.
