Is this girl name too popular?

DH and I really like the name Abigail Grace for a little girl. Well, we both like Abigail, but DH isn't sold on Grace as a middle name. So, as we had been discussing liking this name, a guy at my work just named his little girl this! AHHH!! Not that it matters b/c we could still have a little girl and use the same name, but it got me thinking...is this name becoming TOO popular?

If we have another little girl and choose this name, I don't want ever other girl in her grade to have this name, KWIM?

It was just one on our list of "likes" at this point.

I actually loved the name Abigail while pregnant with my son, when we found out we were having twins, my DH said well we have a name at least. I told him I don't want the nickname of Abby so I sort of was steering away from it. I liked Abigail Grace and also Abigail Faith. Needless to say we are not naming our daughter Abigail after all.

It is a popular name now a days.

That name is really pretty! I do think Abigail is becoming more popular now.

I liked Abigail when I was pregnant with the girls, but we knew we wanted Alina for one name and didn't want "Ali" and "Abbey". I'm partial to Grace too since that's Alina's middle name. ;) I know the name is becoming more common, but I personally don't know any Abigails. I named my daughter Madison though, so I'm probably not the best person to ask! If you love a name, go for it!

Claire's full name is Abby Claire. I've noticed there are more "Abby's" nowadays, instead of Abigails. If you were going to call her Abigail & not shorten it, I think it would be less common.

I love that name so much!

But it has gotten really common lately, both Abigail and Grace.

But I love both of those name. I've loved Abigail since I was a little girl and read a great Abigail Adams biography. I didn't use it because I don't like the way it sounds in Spanish :( . I also love Grace, Faith, Hope and Joy as names.

I love that name!! Did you check the Social Security most popular names list? I'm curious as to where that falls. I'm sorry I don't have time right now to look up the link for you. As for Grace, I LOOOOVE it!!! Probably because of my little Gracie, Lauren Grace.

ETA: Curiosity got the best of me. Here is the SSA link. It was #6 for 2006 and #4 for 2005.

I don't know how popular it is, but I think it's very pretty. The DJ on my favorite morning show has a daughter named Abby Grace (they call her by both names) and I always think it's so pretty.

I don't mind the nickname of "Abby." I always said I didn't want my kids to have names that would turn into nicknames (hence Morgan and Reagan), but we like Abigail and know it would probably turn into Abby and I'm ok with that.

Others we are considering...well, these are ones that I like (not necessarily DH)

    Brenna Mae
    Abigail Grace
    Alivia Grace
    Leah (pronounced Lee-Uh) Nicole
Claire Elise (this is my fave - but DH doesn't like it)
    Aubrey ?

For boys...it would more than likely have DH's middle name which is Michael...so for first names we like either Logan or Lucas. I just don't know if we want to have MorGAN, ReaGAN and LoGAN...lol! but we LOVE Logan!

I wouldn't myself just because it's so popular. There's tons of other great names to choose from. ETA: but of course that's a personal choice.

I've never heard of "Brenna" -- is it a typo? I love Breanna/Briana. And think Breanna Grace is a GORGEOUS name! ETAA: Brenna is nice too actually.

LOVE Lucas (Lukas was to be my boy's name if I had one). Logan is a great name too -- and I like the symmetry with the girls' names. Logan is creeping up the popularity charts, though.

DH had Abby Nichole picked out before we even met, but some adults don't like it when their name is a "nickname" like that, so we picked Abigail Nicole. I have heard that name more and more often lately, though it's true.

For these two girls it's going to be Samantha Rose Marie and Ruby Rose Esperanza (Hope). I have been holding onto Samantha since I was 16. and Ruby is such a classic name that goes well with Samantha and Abigail as well as it being my deceased great grandmothers name. I loved Daisy too which was the other one, but I couldn't get Ruby out of my head. Now my daughter points out that it's also a cartoon character (thanks Abby..).

I think it's fun to look into deceased relatives' names (as long as you liked/loved them) as well as alternative ways to spell the name you want, even in another language (as I had wanted Hope, but DH reminded me his grandma doesn't spell it Hope, but Esperanza). I still like Hope better, but that's one I'm going to let him have since I've chosen everything else for these girls (hey, he got the 1st one, it's my turn! lol).

For some reason I've always been better at picking out boy names (for instance, one stuck with my sister and yeeeears later she named her son it - even forgetting it was my name for a boy had I ever had one... oh well). But another name for a boy that we chose (it was my dad's choice had 1 of us girls been a boy) has become so popular and I know several by the first name or middle name already that it does put a cinch in the plans.

Just have fun with it, make it classic, timeless, rare, or modern - but just have fun.

Personally I think Claire Elise is really close to sounding like Clairise. If it helps any, my mom chose a name that is a common english name for me (not my screen name, btw) but didn't end it with an E and then of all things, chose a middle name that began with an E, so sometimes when they get my name wrong, I just let it slide and point out that it is my middle initial after all.

In 2006, Grace was #17 in popularity.
    Abigail was #6.

    Both are very popular names.

    name popularity site

DH and I had picked out Abigail for dd 2 years before we conceived her. IT was 25th in popularity that year. By the time we conceived her it's popularity was on the rise and we almost didn't name her that because we didn't want a real popular name for our child. The bottom line for us was, are we not going to call our child the name we love just because others love it too? no.

    good luck deciding.

OH - One other thing about Abigail (Abby).. I *always* get compliments when I call Claire "Abby Claire" in public. People tell me what a beautiful name they think it is.. so if you love the name Abigail - you could mix it up by adding a middle name that can be used with it. I think Abby Grace sounds very cute!

I like all your other choices better than Abagail Grace. My favorite is Alivia Grace but FYI Olivia/Alivia is as popular as Abagail. Brenna is a pretty Irish name. A good friend of mine named her little girl Brenna. Like Lucas and Logan both. I dont see anything wrong with sticking with the ending n. In fact I was thinking about that for you last nite. My kids have ending l in their names because I like how it sounds with our last name.

    Other "n" possibilities:

    Girls Boy Either

    Addison Brayden Camryn(g) or Cameron(B)
Lauren Brenden Devyn(g) or Devin (B)
    Irelynn(my Fav) Brandon Emersyn(g) or Emerson(B)
    Teaghan Griffin
    Peyton Tyson
    Meaghan Landon
    Shannon Ethan
    Evan
    Austin
    Tristin
    Patton
    Lincoln
    Kaden

    Just a thought.

Ok my last post obviously didnt work well as somehow all the colums jumbled. I am sure you can figure it out but let me try again. Talking about names ending in "n"

    Girls
    Addison
    Lauren
    Irelynn ( my fav)
    Teaghan
    Meaghan
    Peyton
    Shannon

    Boys
    Brayden
    Brendon
    Brandon
    Griffin
    Landon
    Tyson
    Ethan
    Evan
    Austin
    Lincoln
    Tristan
    Patton
    Kaden

    Either

    Camyrn(g) or Cameron(B)
    Emersyn (g) or Emerson (B)
    Devyn(g) Devin(B)

    Should make more since now

I think Abigail is becoming more popular these days, at least I hear it more often.

I have an Abigayle Rose and Isabelle Grace, so you know I like both names!!

I also think it would be neat to have ReaGAN, MorGAN and LoGAN!!

I like Abigail Grace, it is a popular name right now.

I also like Alivia Grace, Leah Nicole and Aubrey.

For a boy I like Logan, I think it goes nicely with
    Morgan & Reagan.

Names are so hard to figure out, Hope you are able to make a choice!

Not necessarily, I don't think. My niece is named Alivia Anne and I think it's a pretty unique name.
