Is this a problem with their speech...

My boys are 3 years old and can verbalize fine, talk in complete sentences, and are understandable in speech. But they talk with an over annunciation of words most of the time (usually the last word of the sentence). I don't really know how to explain it. Maybe kind of like a 'sing song' rhythm?

The last word of the sentence is usually overextended?

Sort of like, "it doesn't have something on ittttttt" or "it's brokennnnnnnn".

I've never heard of other kids talk like this before.

    PLEASE HELP!

I think one of my DDs (the more verbal of the two) drags out the ends of sentences like that. She also seems to pronounce a few things really strangely -- like a parody of a Midwestern or Southern accent (we don't live in either the Midwest or the South). For instance, she says "pass" like "PEE-aaaass" and "down" like "DEE-owwwn." I just figured she was playing around with the sounds of things.

When I try to say to myself the things you wrote (the way your boys talk) it comes out sounding whiny -- is that what it sounds like to you? In any case if they are understandable, they're way ahead of a lot of 3-year-olds (including my other DD), so I wouldn't worry.

In our house, it was WHINING!! Believe it or not, I thought it was funny and kinda cute and couldn't figure out why they were doing that, but my DH said "THEY ARE WHINING!" I was like OH! I guess so!

I'm willing to bet its a phase. I remember my boys going through a few different phases as far as speech and have outgrown most of it. I]'m pretty sure that was one of them and I was a little concerned .. but it only lasted a short time. One thing that one of my guys still does is repeat his sentences in a whisper .. not sure why .. but hopefully another stage. :)

I appreciate the replies! Sometimes it does sound like they are whiny but they also sound like that when they get excited or are happy about something to.

Like, "we get to go to the parkkkk", or something ordinary like, "my favorite color is blueeee".

They have been doing it since they started talking in complete sentences. I hope it is a phase!
