One of the names we like is Devon - when you hear this name do you think Boy or Girl?

Also, we have a 2 1/2 yr old whose name starts with a C. Would it be weird if one of the twins has a name that starts with a C and the other doesn't? It isn't on purpose we just like one other C name and I am hesitant to give all 3 kids a "C" name.
    Thanks!

When I hear the name Devon I think of boy. There is nothing that says that they all have to start with the same letter. Perfectly normal to have different letters. HTH

  3. In my classes over time, the boy's names have been spelled Devon and the girls have been Deaven.
    Just a thought...

Sounds like a boy name to me. I dont think its wierd to have some kids with the same first initial. 3 out of 4 of mine ended with an n and all have 7 letters except Brooke...I didnt even realize it until after I had already named the babies [IMG]

You know there is another post started by someone else EXACTLY like this! LOL!

Anyway,I have ALWAYS loved this name and had Devon Riley on my mind for a girl but when we moved to Australia 5 years ago found out Devon is the name of a lunch/deli meat here so it would be like naming your kids Salami or Bologna! LOL!

I think it sounds like a Boy. I am going through the same C thing. My husband (#2) wants to name all of our kids with the letter C since his mother did. I don't like that idea because you start to run out of cute names and there are so many other cute names that don't start with C.

I once knew a girl named Devin, but I think the name could go either way! And I think it's a very nice name for either/or. I am not sure about having one of the twins names start with a C, and not the other if you already have your first childs name start with that letter.I would be afraid they would grow up feeling left out, but maybe thats just me! Good luck with the name choices, it was hard for us as well!!!

Devon is a boy. We gave all 3 kids different initials, that was very important to us, also in order to avoid confusion. I would never give my children (incl. the twins) the same initial.

I know a girl named Devin. Before I met her, I thought of it was more a boy's name though.
We are using Avery for our girl's name but it is getting more popular in our area for a boy's name.

Devon is leaning toward being unisex due to current trends. I like clear cut girl/boy names, so I would not like this name. I can suggest some of a similar feel if you'll tell me which names you like.

I think "boy" when I hear/see Devon. I wouldn't be concerned about your older child having a "C" and one of your twins but your other twin having a "D". I highly doubt they will care.

Thanks everyone for your help. Our son is Carter and we were thinking Devon and Caleb for the boys. I was a little worried about Carter and Caleb both having a "C" name and Devon not - but so far most opinions are that it won't really matter. I probably would refer to them as Carter, Devon and Caleb so the "c" names are not next to each other [IMG] Not set in stone yet - hopefully have 7 weeks more to go to decide.

I "think" boy but I do know some girls named Devan or Devin or really anyway you want to spell it. I almost named my first girl Dylan... so I really dont think the boy/girl thing matters when it comes to naming a girl as much as when you name a boy.. Know what I mean? I wanted to name one of the twins Avery and my DH thought that was a boy name too... so we went with Alyssa instead.

My dd and dsil had thought about Devon for one of the boys names, but they went back and forth on the "is it a boy or girl name" so much that they skipped it all together!! They ended up with Cameron and Corey which could go both ways also! It seems like any name can be either at this point..

I knew a girl named Devon, and considered it for one of my name choices, but went with Drew instead. But it would work for either...

I definitey think BOY when I see/hear Devon. As for the initials, I don't think it matters much. In fact, my DSS name is Ashton, and our twins will be Tristan and Aidan. Didn't phase me a bit that Ashton and Aidan will have the same initials and not Tristan. I don't think I would want all 3 to have A's....

Just wanted to add that Devon may 'technically' be a boys name (way back when) but it is used more and more for girls these days (like Dakota,Ryan,Bailey,Morgan,Riley,Mackenzie,Avery,etc...used to be only used for boys now the opposite).

I have two B names and one A name.

My first B name is my older son, Brett

My second B name is (Baby B, Brady)

My A name is (Baby A, Aidan)

Devon - I think is a girls name

We have both male and female Devon's at the high school where I work. I will say that one of the most gorgeous Senior Beauty winners was named Devon. She was the homecoming queen as well - while we had more boys with the name Devon, because of this young lady - her sweet demeanor and her stunning good looks I always tend to think of the name as feminine now.

I think of Devon as a boy name but....have you thought of Devlyn?

I went to school with a set of B/G twins and the girl was Devlyn and the boy David....I always thought Devlyn was a cool name....

When I hear it I think of it as a boy name, especially spelled that way. BUT I knew a girl in school whos name was Devyn spelled with a y, and to me that made it more feminie that way.

I think it's a boy's name. I understand what you are saying about the names starting with the same letter. My son's name is Aidan. We are having girls and I really wanted A & B names. (I'm a nurse and I guess a bit of a dork!) So we are going to have Aidan, Addison and Brionna. It wasn't planned... I didn't want there to be any type of pattern... but I have noticed it. At this point, I just don't care what people think. [IMG]
