my LO doesn't seem to be wheezing. i used a stethoscope and listened to his back and i didn't hear any whistling.
it sounds like there is phlegm that he cant cough up in the back of his throat. he coughs and coughs but nothing is coming 'out' if that makes sense.

is there anything else i can do to help him get it out?

Poor little guy is just having a tough time getting over this one, isn't he? Have you tried sitting in the bathroom with him with the shower on hot so it gets good & steamy? Sometimes that helps my kids. :pardon:

Is he due to be rechecked by the doctor at any point?

the doctor didnt say anything about getting him re-checked.
i was going to call today. he 'looks' better but it still seems to be this phlegmy, nasty cough. his mucous in his nose isnt runny anymore; its much thicker as well.

Are you using saline nasal spray and then the bulb syringe, if needed? Sitting in a steamy bathroom is also a good idea. You could also try Vicks Vapo Rub.

yes the saline spray and we use the nosefreida.
the humidifier is on as well. i will try the hot, steamy bathroom, too.
should i try the baby vicks vap rub on their feet?

    i saw this online:

    any thoughts?

i just counted his breath sounds; he breathed out 40 times in 1 minute.
he has a stuffy sound coming out of him when he breathes out. its not a whistling.

I second the steamy bathroom. I have even taken them into the steamy shower with me. I have also used the vick babry rub, on their feet and chest/neck, with good results.

I would imagine they are all about the same, as long as it is a product for LO's. Our pedi informed us of adverse effects of a chemical in the adult rub. The baby rub only uses natural ingredients. Check your labels.

Definitely the steamy shower and the nasal saline. Have him lay down for a little while after putting the saline in and it will run backward towards his throat to thin out the thick mucous back there. Also, the pedialyte can help clear the stuff that is in the throat from all the post nasal drip.

Have you used the bulb syringe in the back of the throat? I was taught this when the boys were in the hospital with bronciolitis at 8 and 11 months old. After you've salined and sucked the nose, run the bulb syringe (have it smooshed, so to speak, so it's ready to suck) along the inside of their cheek and then to the back. They kind of get a bit gaggy (don't do it so hard or far back that they vomit), then release the bulb and suck up what they kind of gag/cough. It also catches some of the phlegm that sits in the back of the throat. It works great...not their favorite thing, but it does seem to help with that thick phlegm in the throat.
