One of the girls is really chewing on her thumb and sticking it way back in her mouth. She claims her tooth hurts but when I ask where, she can't tell me. So, I'm skeptical. But is it possible she's getting new molars?

I think they can still get ones in the way back. Poor baby.

Nope, no 4 yr molars. There are 2 yr molars. They should have 10 teeth on top and 10 teeth on the bottom, and then their primary teeth are all in.

    Good luck.

Like the pp, there are no new teeth at 4 years old. They get their last baby teeth with the 2yo molars and then the 6yo molars are among the first permanant teeth.

It's possible that she has a scratch or a sore on her gum back there. If she's still complaining of tooth pain in a few days, you might want to have her checked for cavities.

It's hard to get good information out of them at this age. When was her last dentist visit?

I agree with the pp that it could be a gum injury or a cavity. If she has a cold, pain in the teeth can also be a sign of a sinus infection but there would be other symptoms.
