when i'm pregnant I crave ice, mainly sonic ice. for those of you who don't have sonics. they are very small cubes of ice.

i don't know why but i crave it BAD when i'm pregnant. We would buy bags from them and keep it in the freezer and I would munch on it all day.

well, the twins are almost 7 months old and I am still addicted to ice. I literally CRAVE it. If I am out of the ice, I am miserable and ache for it.

I just made my husband go and get another bag this evening. (we have to get a new bag about every other day)

when he came back he said he seriously thought something was wrong with me. he said he thought I might want to call the doctor.

do you think that something might be wrong or am I just weird?

I've heard that ice cravings when you are pregnant means that your iron is low. My iron is always low when i was pregnant. I just figured that that was a coincidence (sp).

    THANKS!

I had never heard that abour craving ice and low iron - maybe that's my problem. I am the same way. Istarted craving ice when I was pregnant, and I still love a good cup of ice.

I looked it up and it can be a sign of anemia, but can also be linked to stress. I'd guess with 7 month old twins, stress is most likely the culprit. You oculd always have your doc check your iron just to be safe.

I have heard that is from a lack of iron also.

I have never heard of the lack of iron thing...good to know. I tend to be anemic most of the time, and it was worse when I was pregnant. Sonic does have good ice! :) Call your doc. :hug99:

I think it's a disorder called pica and it can be caused by low iron, but can have other causes as well. Better be safe and call your doc to have your iron level tested.
My mother was anemic for years and she always ate ice. Once she was treated for it she stopped eating ice completely.

I had low iron my whole life. I even had to buy a freezer that could crush ice! After the fifth iron transfusion, I stopped eating ice and have not craved it since. Literally it was a few days after the fifth one. Its been three years since I had low iron and I have not eaten it since!

OMG!! I could have written this post! I am OBSESSED with sonic ice! when I was pregnant I went through a bag almost everyday. I still had DH get it every day for me until last week (my twins are almost 5 weeks) when I realized there was just not room in the freezer for my ice addiction. I'm super anemic, and still on iron pills. I know that's got something to do with it, but seriously...sonic ice is just so freaking good. If you asked me if I would rather have an ice cream sundae or a cup of sonic ice---it would be no question! Glad I'm not the only one

WOW! I can't believe I'm not the only one. I'm showing this to my husband tonight. he thinks i'm crazy! I have had extremely low iron and the doc said it would take a while to get it back up. i'm going to go ahead and call and see if they will check it. i thought it would be better by now since it has been 7 months but maybe not.

THANKS! I'm so glad I'm not alone with this craziness!!

Wow, I never heard of the low iron thing being associated with craving ice but it does make sense. I also craved ice toward the end of my pregnancy right around the same time my OB put me on solufe for my low iron level. It lingered for a few weeks after the girls were born but I don't crave it anymore.

I agree with mrsfussypants - sonic ice ROCKS!!!!!
