I posted a couple days ago about my doctor not seeing a dividing membrane at 7 weeks 3 days and telling me that my twins could be either monodiamniotic or monoamniotic, I am so worried because I didnt know if one yolk sac was a bad sign. Did anyone else have one yolk sac?

It is likely too early to see a dividing membrane for sure - we didn't see ours until about 16 weeks. In my research into the issue for our twins, I read one paper which stated that the presence of two yolk sacs almost always indicates diamniotic twins and a single yolk sac is most likely indicative of monoamniotic twins. I don't remember the statistics, but I doubt that the rule is 100%. It shouldn't be viewed as a bad sign, but if they are able to confirm monoamniotic twins, they would require more intense monitoring.

I had an ultrasound with my identicals around your time too and their were two yolk sacs and two membranes visible. If they are diagnosed as having one they will be closely monitored. Dont worry too much as long as you have great healthycare they will be healthy! Just do whatever the doc tells you too and be sure to ask any questions of your doc and perinatologist. They are here for you and be sure to ask them anything to help make sure those babies arrive healthy and happy! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I didn't see any yolks sacs with either of my twins (they were mono-di). I did with Rebecca. Maybe they just didn't point it out to me, though. They didn't see a dividing membrane at the 1st u/s (7w1d). A level2 u/s at 8w2d identified the membrane.

I wouldn't call it a bad sign! Sometimes u/s doesn't always tell the whole story. It's an art as much as it is a science. That's even what our u/s techs told us. . . we saw them 2X weekly for 13 plus weeks! Different techs got different measurements and views.

Hang in there and have faith and hope! It could just indicate you have mono twins. There's a support group online for mono/mono pregnancies, but I'm not sure of the site's web address. I have read that's been very supportive and a great resource. Maybe one of the other moms could provide this for you.

I had mono/di twins with TTTS (we saw a very thin membrane and two yolk sacs at about 10 weeks), and so many people made me feel hopeless, including my docs as times. Don't lose your hope, and don't let anyone steal your joy about those two little babies.
