Ok, I have been guilty of leaking pee occasionally during this pregnancy, but last night I woke up and felt a lot of dampness in my underwear. I changed underwear and for some reason felt I needed to leave the damp underwear for inspection in the morning to make sure it was pee. I've never done that before, but something just told me to. I'd say the liquid was equivalent to 1 or 2 TBSP...just enough to be damp...not enough to soak through pants or anything. I figured by morning I would be able to tell it if was pee, amniotic fluid, or sweat. I go to check this morning and it smells sweet (like melted ice cream?), not like ammonia or sweat. Also, the affected area of the underwear is slightly stiffer. Has anyone had this problem? If so, what was done about it?

    Thanks!

  3. I had that happen at 26 weeks and was feeling contractions as well. They monitored me, didnt know why I was leaking (cervix closed) and after 1 day let me go home...

If you think you are leaking amniotic fluid you need to call your doctor. I don't have any experience with this myself, but my OB said if I ever leaked anything 'sweet' smelling to call her immediately! Good luck!

    Mary,
You should probably get it checked out. When I was pg with my son I was leaking fluid for about a month (slow leak)and it was sweet. They can test it quickly at the hospital to determine if it is af..

Well, apparently I have to watch today and see if it happens when I am awake. We'll see.

It could also just be cervical fluid that came out all at once. That wouldn't smell like urine and could make your panties stiff.

It is hard to tell, so when I thought I could be leaking, I went to the bathroom to completely empty my bladder. I layed down on the couch for about an hour figuring that if it was amniotic fluid it would "pool" in my vagina. Sure enough when I got up I could feel something coming out. It was kind of like a faucet on drip. I could cup my hand "down there" and catch each drip even though my bladder was empty. That was pretty suspicious to me so I called my OB. 2 hours later my water broke in a gush all over my kitchen floor right before we left to go to the hospital.

So I would say if you feel it again, you probably should get it checked out.

My OB told me that if it trickles or drips it is more then likely amneo fluid and not urine. I would get checked. It is an easy check.
    Take care!

Well, my husband's family got all insane (I called to ask DH's aunt's phone number..she is a nurse and I wanted a second medical opinion just for my peace of mind. She said it was probably just cervical mucous or urine that was not strong and told me the same thing, so I was a happy camper. Anyway, I didn't go into details with my inlaws because who wants to tell their MIL and FIL that maybe they peed themselves or worse had a really good dream about their son? Anyway, instead of calling the aunt or me an hour later to check back and see what the deal was, they called folks and told them they thought I was in labor. Relish the drama vs. make a 5 minutes phone call to find out the truth from the horse's mouth. So weird! I told DH I really didn't want to get into the issue with them because whatever it is, it's fluid from my girl parts! I think Raneysmama is right...just a gush of cervical fluid because I haven't had any problems all day but it definitely wasn't pee...I've leaked enough of that this pregnancy to know the difference [IMG]

Ok I have never been pregnant before (until now) so I really dont have much to go on but I was wondering could it be leukorrhea? I heard it can get pretty bad. So bad some women need to wear pads for the last month of the pregnancy. My dr. told me about this last week b/c I kinda had the same thing happen and I am to early in my pregnancy to have to worry about AF leaks. She said that it happens a lot and its just a type of fluid that pregnant women have a lot of. I dont know if it could be that....just thought I would put it out there! I hope you figure it out either way!!

My first two pregnancies my water broke with both of them. It was never a gush of fluid though. The first time it happened I had just went to bed and of course had emptied my bladder before going to sleep. I was laying down and felt like I wet myself so I went and changed and went back to bed and then it happened again. I called my Mom who is a nurse and she said you better go to the hospital and she was right. The second time it happened I had a bloody discharge first and the same feeling again but this time I was out to dinner with friends. [IMG]
This time around I have a lot of discharge. It is almost making me think I am leaking fluid but it doesn't look the same and I have told my Doctor and he didn't seem to be alarmed. I am seeing my Doctor who will be doing my scheduled c-section (My second was an emergency c-section) on Monday so I am going to bring it up again. It is enough that I have to wear a liner and change it often. Kind of embarrassing subject [IMG] but it has kept me wondering. Has anyone had this problem after multiple pregnancies and now carring twins?

Any change in discharge really should be checked out. You want to know that the amniotic fluid isn't leaking or hasn't leaked. It's very easy to check.
I had a similar experience and had it checked out. It wasn't amniotic fluid but the babies arrived less than 24 hours later.
If I were you I wouldn't wait for it to happen again before I saw a dr.
Hope it's nothing more than a change of regular discharge.
