Sorry if these are silly questions. I am going to serve the babies kiwi fruit tonight but though I would check first JIC.

Yep! Just peel it, though. My girls love it - just be aware - you'll see the seeds the next day (or sometimes it seems just a few hours later) out the other end! I am pretty sure watermelon is ok, too, I just haven't given it.

I have had no issues with either of those fruits. However do be prepared to see the watermelon in the poop the next day. It looks a little fleshy the second time around ;) and totally freaked me out at first until I figured out what it was. Sorry for TMI.

I always gave those fruits with no problem too but I thought i heard recently that watermelon is a no before 1 yr old. Not sure where I heard that and I wasn't paying much attention since my youngest are 2 y/o.

FWIW, my pediatrician told me that fruits with more seeds are more problemmatic/allergenic. When I think about kiwi, LOADS of seeds.

That said, I think I've been giving my girls kiwi since about 10 months with no problem.

ETA: That said, http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com (an awesome site!) says they are not highly allergenic and says introduce between 8-10 months.

I think most kids are fine with both, but I have heard that kiwi can be just as allergenic as strawberries, if not more -- so, just keep an eye out for any reactions....

strawberries, kiwi, watermelon, and cantaloupe are no-nos prior to 1 year, according to my pedi but he's pretty weird :p (we JUST introduced cereal, after fruits, veggies, and meat, which i thought was so unusual i posted about it here when i first heard about it--but it has to do with the allergens in grains)
