Is it sleep regression or do they really not want 2 naps?!

I have no idea what to do at this point. I start off every day like I normally do and put the twins down for their morning nap around 9:30am. They sleep for a couple of hours or just less. We play go for a walk, have lunch, play some more and then I put them down to sleep around 1:30-2pm like I normally do. But the last few days they have been refusing their afternoon nap. I shush, sooth, CIO, change bums, and then have no other choice but to bring them downstairs again.

So, today, I kept them up during their morning nap (had to run out for a second and they fell asleep in the car for 20 minutes) and now I have then in their cribs for their afternoon nap and now they are sleeping! What the heck am I supposed to do?!

Is it just a regression and am I to keep doing what I normally do until they grow out of it? Or are they ok to go from 2 naps to 1 at this age?! I already have a son, but I feel like a FTM again!

    Thanks girls!

Mine are on one nap most days--2.5-3 hours. The only exception is if they wake really early from their nap and then they will take a second one.

Mine dropped their morning nap about 2 weeks ago. We nap one very long nap in the afternoon. I put them down at noon and most days they sleep till 4. It could be that they are ready for 1 nap a day.

I mean, if you go by the averages they are more likely in a regression than going to one nap. Jude did this starting at 10 mos...we literally transitioned to one nap over 6 or 7 mos. Sometimes she would take one, sometimes two. If she took one in the morning, she would rarely nap in the afternoon, but she still had "quiet time" in the crib for 1 hour every afternoon. Finally, once Zoe appeared to be ready to go to one nap I started moving to mid-day for one nap. There is SOOOOO much going on developmentally that they start having this idea that they never want to sleep until they have to and they crash. We did the quiet time because there is no way they could make it to bedtime without being little bears. I think now more than ever you are really going to have to keep an eye on their cues and look for a pattern over the next couple weeks to try to determine if this is for real. Most likely they are not ready, but as you can see a couple of PPs already are doing it. It is just more rare than common...but not an impossibility. Good luck - these sleeping changes make things challenging.

My twins are my first - so i have no advice. Although, what Betsy said makes sense to me. Mine are still taking 2 naps consistently.

I'm baffled. The minute I posted this topic, they were both cranking up a storm. So, not only have they not had a morning nap, but they didn't have an afternoon nap either! I can't stand this! I NEED my me time so badly! 3 under the age of 2 is just bonkers on the best of days and today is one of those days x10!

My guys have been doing this some days, too. Most days their morning nap is only 40 minutes, but their afternoon nap is 1.5-2 hours. However, a few days in the last week, they have only taken two 40 minute naps. It drives me nuts - I can't hardly get the dishes donea and the bottles made before they are up! Oh, well. I'm lucky that my kitchen, dining room, and living room is all one big room, so sometimes I can sneak off into the kitchen and let them play while I do a few things (unless they see me leave and then it's ! )

Mine are still on two naps and at times I think they might be better off with a third (wishful thinking). I hate the fact that I can never predict how long they will sleep for because the length of time changes daily. Oh well, I know they rule and not me.

I hope it is just a phase and they will nap better. I totally understand needing the ME time, it is very important. I just like to hear and feel the silence in the house, it calms me down and gets me ready for when they are up and running again.

mine NEVER took 2 naps - they would take one long nap from about 10 AM till about noon or one sometimes - I started pushing that back though by offering a snack at 10 am and then lunch at 11:30 and they were down for a nap by noonish...they would then sleep till about 3 and it made the days much better!

I wonder if you are waiting to long to put them down? There is a window of opportunity in getting your kids down for a nap. IF you wait too long, it mightnot happen. I know, it doesn't make any sense, but it is worth a try.. try to get them down for their afternoon nap a little earlier? :pardon: My twins were still on 2 naps a day at that point, and I think my youngest was also.
