Is it possible?

Luke has been looking at DH all day and saying "Dada." Of course, he then looks at everything else and continues to say "Dada"...is it possible that he is saying his first word or just making random sounds? I thought I was going crazy but DH heard it too and then Luke just kept on doing it. I think it is a little soon for first words, but I can't help but wonder... color me confused!

It is a little early for first words, however, he seems to be using it with meaning, even though he uses it to "label" more than one specific thing. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days.....

We've heard a lot of mamamamama from DS lately. I'm not sure what to think. It seems it is most often when he is upset and when I go to him he stops crying. So maybe there is a connection, but I don't know. DD says the same thing every time I tell her to say "dog", point at the dog, etc. It's nonsense and really funny, but the same nonetheless.

I think it must be how it begins and we must coax and explain and they'll get it. I'm super psyched to be entering the babbling and talking stages. DH and I are both from families of talkers.

Isn't it just the sweetest and cutest though when they say things that mean something?

I say it's a first word. As long as he is using it right some of the time, go for it. Of course, this was my favorite milestone, and mine probably "talked" early because of it. It is really nice when they can start to tell you what they want.

Could be either. All kids are different so never know, might not be to early for yours :)

I would probably say he is just babbling. My girls do the same thing, but when they do get it right (i.e. saying dadada and looking at daddy) I always try to praise them to reinforce it, so that one day they "get it". Its so fun to listen to their ramblings!

Thanks for the input! I do love listening at their ramblings, especially his, because it seems like he can carry quite a long conversation with himself or anyone around him!

I will be so excited to hear them put meaning into their "words"!

I think it's a first word. Some babies say words early. My mom swears I started saying "hi" at four months old. So, I believe it could be.

I would count it has a first word. It doesn't have to be said to the right parent when they first learn it. But I read somewhere that when they do "say" a word you have to keep repeating it and reinforcing that it is in fact a word. That is what I do when they "say" new sounds and it has worked so far. GL and WTG!!!!

I would definately say it was a first word. Even though he may not know exactly what or who "da-da" is, it's a word none the less. When my kids first learned "da-da" and that it meant daddy, they called every man "da-da" :) My dh and I had a joke that I must have gotten around to have so many "da-da's" :D

Our daughter said dada daddy clear as day the day she turned 6 months. We got it on video and thought it was a fluke. Just baby babble but when he woke up she kept saying it to him like she knew and has been since so I'd say it's very possibly a first word.

I'd count it as a first word! Write it down in the baby book :)
