is it normal to feel this dumb during pregnancy?

I have been making at least 1-2 really dumb mistakes per week since I hit my second trimester. Things like mixing up dates, forgetting to do things, forgetting I've done things....it's so embarassing! My DH now pretty much checks up on everything I do! I remember having prego brain and nursing brain with my first, but nothing like this. Anyone else? Or am I going nuts?

You have pregnancy brain! I had it with my first, and now again this time around. I've actually gotten lost on my way to work, making wrong turns. Forgotten where I parked. Forgotten family birthdays. It's terrible!

I've forgotten that I had stuff in my hands and have broken many glass items. There's a term "baby ate my brain". =/

Dr. Oz says that pregnancy brain is caused by the baby sucking the Omega 3 fatty acids out of your brain! The baby needs them for it's own brain development and since a lot of pregnant women are afraid to eat fish, the biggest source for the baby is what we have stored in our own brains. So he suggested taking a fish oil supplement to help lesson that. :)

Good suggestion about the fish oil. I started supplements about a month ago, but I really am not up to a good dosage yet (have to go slow due to digestive issues!). I think I'll bump my dosage! I heard it may also prevent agains post-partum depression.

I've taken a really good fish oil supplement for years, but I still experienced major memory lapses in the last part of my first trimester and first part of my second. For example: I left my wallet at my OB's office; I left my insurance card at the pharmacy; I locked myself out of my house twice; I left my keys in the ignition of my car (turned off) while visiting Cedars Sinai for a baby care class... etc. My husband was mortified, because I am usually the "rememberer" in the family. Thankfully, it has gotten better!

I thought the pregnancy brain was bad, but the mommy brain is worse. Look out. ;)

That is interesting on the Omega-3. Makes sense. My pregnancy brain was MUCH worse with my first pregnancy, when I didn't take it. This time my prenatals come with it, and it's not as bad...

I have also taken fish oil for years so I think I get plenty of Omega 3's and yet...today I was explaining something at work that I have explained *countless* times before and was making a relatively important point when...poof! I literally could not remember what I was saying. Nor could I remember the point I was making. Talk about embarrassing! And this person doesn't know I'm pregnant (I was on the phone) so now he thinks I'm just an airhead.
It's funny, I'm a pretty "with it" person and I never thought so-called "pregnancy brain" could happen to me. So-called, nothing! It's real and can (and does) happen to anyone!

I am constantly feeling stupid at work. I get ahead of myself on calls with customers and have to take a step back. I also feel really self aware for some reason. It's annoying because I am constantly double checking emails and stuff before I send them. I can't wait to be on leave so I can relax.

Yup. It sure is normal to be dumb all of a sudden. "Baby ate my brain" is right. I keep buckling my little one into his car seat. By the time I'm done getting the squirmy little one in there my 3 year old has already climbed into his booster seat. I turn around and get to my seat only to have Patrick remind me he needs to be buckled in to. I feel like such a bad mom saying it but jeeze... I hope I can start remembering things soon.

I used to blame everything I did on twin pregnancy brain. I don't know what it is, but being pregnant just sucks brain cells out of you, but I agree with Susan, mommy brain is worse (sorry don't mean to scare you). But giving birth just sucks your brain cells out some how. :pardon:
