Is it a boy thing?

Nolan is a boy, through and through. He loves his sports, etc. My issue is....he throws everything. His shoes, his toys, his sippy cup (I got hit in the knee with that last night, it hurt). Is this a boy thing? Meghan doesn't do it.

I dont know since I never had girls but my boys throw EVERYTHING. I just bought the sippy cup leashes and am awaiting them in the mail.

One of my girls does it. It is more than dropping stuff from the highchair, Ella will take the sippy cup or toy and throw it down on the ground.

Mine have these small plastic balls that came with a ball pit game. They are allowed to throw those and I go as far as to compliment their throwing skills. If they start to throw anything other than the ball, I tell them, "Let's throw the ball! Where's the ball?" and they will stop and find a ball to throw. Very seldom do they throw anything other than the ball anymore -- it's only mid-tantrum that they'll do that.

My boys throw everything. When they are in the car, they love to chunk stuff at me. They get into big trouble. I thought that I could solve this when they were little, by taking all of the ammunition out of the car. They would just have to suffer the consequences of throwing things in the car. It worked great UNTIL I got hit in the head with a shoe! :excl: The entire car was in hysterics, even my hubby had to fall out laughing!! :rotflmbo:

Aidan is OBSESSED with throwing things. We are trying to teach him to only throw balls but he doesn't seem to get it yet. We're working on it. Amanda doesn't throw as much as Aidan but she does throw things. The problem is that they both love throwing rocks from our landscaping. We just keep reminding them that they can't throw anything but balls and we encourage them with the balls.

I feel your pain Maureen! Blake is definitely the thrower of things, but Katelyn has her moments too!

If it is not tied down, glued down or too heavy Rachel will throw things with all her might. The heavier the item, the better in her opinion...you have to watch your toes and shins in my house these days.

I don't know, but my boy throws everything too, while my daughter will always take her sippy cup & neatly set it back in the cup holder - every time.

We were talking about it today when the PT came up from EI for dd. She said a good thing to do would be to have some kind of soft ball that's ok to throw in the house, but try to teach that other things aren't ok to throw. I do have several of those Whiffle balls (I think that's what they're called) that ds just loves to throw around.....when he starts throwing other things, I'll say, "Let's find your ball to throw", etc.

My boys also throw everything!!! especially into gardens or forests!!!!! They are only 17 months and seeing your boys are older, I am just going to have to deal with it for a while longer!!

We are trying our best to curb it, but....Aggressive and athletic boys are going to be aggressive and athletic boys!

    good luck!

DS throws everything, DD not. So I was wondering the same.

Both mine will do it but perhaps it's because we say don't throw to DS that DD will do it! She always does what we tell DS not to do!

Reagan throws everything in site when she is MAD at the world. Her tantrums aren't the typical fall on the floor and scream your head off...they are more like walking around the room and throwing everything...not usually at someone, but just onto the floor and she just has the worst "I'm so mad I could scream" look on her face. Usually lands her right in time out.

My 18 month olds are doing this. I have a boy and a girl.

Tonight I got hit in the head by a flying sippy cup. Most days if it is not nailed down, they will throw it down the basement stairs. Tonight it took a laundry basket to get everything out of there. UGH!! I really hope that they grow out of it... soon!! It seems that the sippy cups always hit me somehow!!!

We're pretty much all convinced that Wesley is going to be the next Nolan Ryan. Not only does he throw things ALL the time, he does it with uncanny accuracy.

I hope he retains that and really is an ace. A good throwing arm can come in handy. =)

My boys threw everything in sight when they turned two. I put lots of wash cloths and towels in a big box and told them that they are allowed to throw towels but nothing else in the house. They needed to be reminded lots of times and it was a big pain to pick up the towels everyday, but it was better than everything in the house being broken. This phase lasted about 6 months and it's much better now.
