Is eating spicy food one of the ways to bring on labor?

I'm sitting here eating Vietnamese chicken curry which is SOOOO good, but so spicy I'm sweating from it! It's just a myth that it'll bring on labor, right?

It must be a myth becasue as we speak I am sitting here eating hot and spicy vegetables with rice. And it's 5 star hot. I eat it all the time and my last pregnancy I ate hot and spicy all the time and had to be induced at 42 weeks. So as far s I know we are good. Becasue I always crave spciy chineese food when I'm pregnant.

It is technically an old wives tale but many doctors will recommend it on to try list when you are close to the end and need your contractions to start.

Last year my friend who was pregnant with a singleton and at 39 weeks had kim-chi soup (Korean) and went into labor 6 hours later!! When we were at lunch we joked that this would definitely bring it on and she called me the next day to let me know it worked and she was in the hospital! Her doctor said yes it is a wives tale but it has been shown to work. She said that some spicy food cause some people to have their intestines contract which is around your uterus, which in turn will cause your uterus to start contracting in return. So it may work! you never know!

I don't know, my ob told me yesterday that I am officially off "pelvic rest", and that some spicy food might not be a bad idea. She was half joking, but hey, I'm willing to try it if it works. These babies are huge and I don't want to be induced (due to size of babies and bp issues) next week, I'd rather go into labor on my own!

I think it's a myth, I've been craving spicy food the last few weeks and no signs of labor here!

I ate spicy food my entire pregnancy and was induced at 39 weeks. HOWEVER, if the spicy food gives you diarrhea, THAT has been known to bring on labor because of the sympathetic muscle action (which is exactly why castor oil is on that list)

Myth! I tried everything I had heard with my oldest DD to bring on labor, and nothing worked. She was a week late. Sorry!

Yeah I don't know... because my son was born at 37 weeks after a lunch that brought on contractions of HOT and SPICY Buffalo WINGS!

So I always tell full termers to try something hot and spicy!
