is a superyard necessary?

My girls are 6 1/2 months old and they are rolling around now...I have seen some people post about "superyards". We have one packnplay but it doesn't seem big enough for both of them. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the superyards: are they a great thing to have? or just a waste of money? which brand is best? (i have seen north gates and summer infant) is the extender kit necessary?

Thanks so much for your help!

I don't have one and don't plan on buying one. We just put a gate up between our family room and kitchen and it keeps them in fine. I know a lot of people do use the superyard though.

I'm debating getting one. I'm waiting to see how things work once we have the basement finished.

We never bought one. We have a fairly small house. So we just babyproofed our family room and put gates up between the family room and the kitchen (the family room also leads down our hallway, but I just shut the doors). It worked perfectly and there were never any issues.

We use 2 'Lil Playzones (sold at One Step Ahead or Target online)
and put them together for a large play area. We love them- they have an attached play area and are very stable. I have a superyard but have not used it yet.

I would say they are not a must, especially if you can gate off a baby-friendly area. I can't do that easily in my house, very open floor plan.

I will say it is nice to be able to quickly plop a baby down if needed in a safe spot to run for the phone or get something done quick.

I never used a gate or superyard in my home--and yes, I do have a 2 story colonial.

We did buy a gate and superyard, I tried the superyard once, the boys HATED it, so I returned it. The gate sat in its box at the top of the stairs for a year and a half before we returned it--unused. I did lock cabinets that I needed the boys to stay out of, other than that, they have always had the run of the house, and learned early what rooms they were to stay out of. Until they could open doors, I would just leave the doors closed on bathrooms and rooms I wanted to keep them out of.

For me, yes. We used it when they started rolling up until they could walk.

We bought one like this from the smae person, just $30 shipping instead.

We bought it because when we are watching movies in the family room the babies liked to play with the reciever and tv, also the speaker wires that are along the base boards.

It is only necessary if you feel you need it for their safety, like we did.
