How many of you are giving your little ones iron? My pedi prescribed it since they were born and I'm wondering if that might be causing some of there discomfort (along with the reflux)...
A friend of mine with triplets never had to give hers iron and they were also premature.

I was given iron to take for about 6 weeks, but not my babies. I do remember it not agreeing with my tummy too well, I think the bottle even recommended that I take it with meals to avoid upset stomach.

Were they tested for being anemic or something? I haven't heard of babies being given extra iron. Like the pp, I was but not my babies. In fact, we even had to use the low iron formula since they were getting too much from the formula.

Our pediatrician recommended Tri Vi Sol with Iron by Enfamil (vit A, C, C and iron supplement). It doesn't seem to cause our boys any discomfort but they definately don't like it, they make awful faces when I give them the drops!

If your babies are exclusively breastfed, they will need a vit D supplement and if they were born early, their iron stores will not be as high as a term baby and they will likely need additional iron as well.

I had to give my breastfed baby iron, but Lily eventually got half or more of her nutrition via formula so we stopped the iron for her at that point. The NICU and my pedi said the iron was for 50% or more breastfed babies.
