I have a sweet daughter that is asking for nothing for Christmas. She has such a wonderful heart. She said she did not want anything but if we got her something she would be happy. So today at work we got a delivery of the leap frog iPads. 4 sold in the first 5 min to shoppers at the door. When I went on break after the morning meeting we still had two on the shelf. I picked one up and bought it.

She is 11 and it says it is for 3-9 year olds but I think she will like it. I also got her an iPod shuffle in her favorite color "green".

Is the leap frog iPad an appropriate gift for an 11 year old?

She might enjoy it, but I think she might be too old for it really. My 5 yr old mastered and finished the first game we bought her in just 2 days. So I'm getting her a couple new games for Christmas. My 9 yr old likes it, but more because it's a novelty. The games are geared more towards teaching 4-9 yr olds basics like writing letters, drawing shapes, starting math concepts..etc. She may enjoy it, but at 11 yrs old she'll know how to do most of what the games teach.

I think the iPod would go over better than the leap pad. She will likely use it but the novelty of it will wear off quick.

Unfortunately I think she's a bit old for it. She'll be bored with the games since they're geared towards much younger kids... it's mostly stuff like how to spell, simple math, etc. If she already knows those skills, there won't be much for her to do other than push buttons. I'd probably return it and spend that money on a gift card so she can download songs for her iPod Shuffle.

Edited to add: So I just checked. It looks like the LeapFrogPad retails for about $200. I'm guessing with an employee discount you probably got it a bit cheaper, but it's still a decent amount of money. How about taking that and upgrading the iPod Shuffle to an iPod Touch? The Shuffle is $50 and the Touch is $200... so if the LeapFrogPad cost you $150 you've got that to spend... ? (just a thought) I think the iPod Touch would be awesome for an 11 year old.

What about a more inexpensive tablet? I know my 9 yr old would be bored with the LeapPad. My 11 year old would LOVE an Ipad or Ipod touch for Christmas. I don't even have an Ipad, so there's no way he'g getting one, LOL!

the leap frog iPad shelf price is $99.99 I got my employee discount and my card discount so it cost me a bit less.

I am going to keep the shuffle what it is but I think I will talk to DH about returning the leap frog iPad and maybe getting her something else, what I am not really sure.

I got one for my Grandson who is 4. I don't know if you would consider an actual iPod touch .. but that seems to be the biggest hit here at my house. I bought one in July for the boys birthday and they haven't put it down yet.

Oh Cheryl, you're killing me!! I'm still trying to find two green ones for my grandsons!! I would go with the i Touch if you can swing it- she will get years of use out of it! My step daughter just got one for her 18th birthday and uses it non stop!
