Introducing...

I've been gone a few days...Olivia May decided to join us a few days early!

Here's the quick story:
I hit the 38 week mark on Tuesday. I woke up that day feeling a lot of pressure and I had a backache. I felt like I was waddling when I tried to walk. I told DH I thought she might come any time now. I was having virtually painless contractions about 10 minutes apart by 10 PM. I went to bed around 11 and figured that I should at least try to get some sleep.

I woke up at 2 AM having the painless contractions about 5 minutes apart. I timed them for about an hour before trying to wake DH up. He is a very sound sleeper and didn't budge when I tried to wake him! (Must be nice.) I gave him another 30 minutes and tried again. I knew that if I called the OB they'd tell me to wait until they were more painful, but all the while I knew that this was it. About 5 minutes after I got DH to wake up, I had a contraction that broke my water (while I was laying in bed - luckily we had taken precautions so that the matress didn't get ruined). That's when we started making phone calls. DH called the OB while I called my parents in NY. After talking to the OB we called my friend to come over to be with Abby and Kate. She got to our house around 4 AM. We took our time leaving and got to the hospital around 5 AM.

I was quickly admitted and sent to a delivery room. I was 3 cm at the time. After getting settled, I got the epidural, which wasn't very effective. I couldn't feel my legs or my stomach, but I could feel the area in between (if you know what I mean). Needless to say, I didn't get any rest while there. By 10:50 AM I was ready to push. The nurse assured me that the baby should just pop right out since this was my 2nd birth. Yeah right! It took a lot of effort on my part, but Olivia May came into the world at 11:43 AM. She was posterior ("Sunny-side Up") and the cord was wrapped around her neck once. She weighed in at 7 lb., 11 oz. and was 20.25 inches long. She scored 9's on her Apgars.

I have to say, it was a tough labor but everyone is OK. I am definitely very sore and probably will be for a while. The nurses told me afterwards that they were surprised I didn't end up with a c-section because of Olivia's position and her size.

Abby and Kate love their new sister! They are really cute when she is around. I just hope it stays this way.

Congrats! Giving birth to Rebecca was harder for me than giving birth to the twins (well, they were both hard but the post partum was more difficult with Rebecca). I'm glad the girls are all adjusting well.
