At ds and dd 6 month appointment their ped. said that I could start introducing them to sippy cups with water in them. I went and bought the Avent ones as well as the Born Free sippy cups since they have the softer nipple part. Well, neither ds or dd seems interested in them because of the nipple. They play with them but will not suck out of them. What sippy cups did you use at first and what age did your babies start to use them. I give them sippy's twice a day after lunch and while we're having dinner but they just think they're new toys

    Thanks!

We started with the take and toss cups as they are easiest to drink from. We them moved to Playtex cups and took away bottles totally at 8 months.

    Good luck!

We are using the Nuby with straws....Chase loves it...he is doing very well with his cup...he takes 5-6 ounces of BM or formula from his every afternoon! David isn't too interested yet.

I bought my girls the platex first sipster. They do better with the straw ones but it is hard to find a small straw sippy that they don't have to bite on the get the liquid to come out. I have gotten them some of the bigger straw sippies but they are just to big for them. They do ok with the platex first sipster. It took mine a long time to figure out the sippy. They will drink out of any sippy now if they are really thirsty.

I have this same question. I got the Avent ones too and the only way they will drink out of them is if I take the piece out that keeps the liquid from spilling. Then, of course, I have wet babies. Seems like there should be a easier solution.

We haven't started ours yet, but when we do (which should be in the near future) we're planning on using the Nubby with a straw. I've gotten great reviews on them.

I used the Avent ones as well, but when I first introduced them, I took out the part that keeps it from spilling out. A bit messy, but after a few times, they got the hang of it & I was able to put the piece back in. I also used formula in the cups, so it was something familiar for them to drink. They refuse to drink plain water (although I have had luck with the gerber fruit splashers drink).

We had to try a lot of sippies to land on the one the girls liked. We ended up using the Playtex First Sipsters and still use them now. We started giving them to them around 6-7 months. M got it immediately, but it took A awhile to realize what it was (I had to take the valve out to show her there was stuff in there!). GL!

We actually started with hard spouts then I bought some soft spouts. We have platex hard spouts, gereber soft spouts and the born free trainer nipples. I like the born free ones because they seem to get a lot less air. I'd put milk or watered down juice if they don't seem to get the idea with water. Our two LOVE water so I have to limit water intake a lot.

Have you tried straw cups. They say they are for much older babies on the package but both of our two LOVE straw cups and they don't have to tip them to get a drink!

oh - one got it right away the other took a while. Just keep giving it to them they'll get it!
