How to do this and how do you teach them how to use it? Any recommendation on a good starter sippy, we have the playtex starter ones, we got them at our baby shower so i just started sitting them on the highchair trays. I'm just clueless do they more or less figure it out on their own? Thanks!!

you'll probably try several sippies before you find one that works for your LOs. for us, we found success with the nuby sippies with the soft silicone spouts. when you're shopping see if the sippies have recommended ages or stages on them. that gave us at least some idea of what would be easier at which developmental stage (in terms of coordination). some folks have had their greatest success with straw sippies, but my guys didn't get the concept of the straw until well after they were able to use spout sippies. it all varies according to the child.

it might take some time for them to get it, and at 5 months you might not have much success. we started introducing sippies around 8 months but they didn't really seem to get it until closer to 10. i thought they'd never figure it out! introducing sippies was one of the only times i've done straight fruit juice, because i wanted them to get the reward of something sweet when they managed to get a drop out of it. we tried other tricks i've seen recommended, like putting an ice cube in there so they'll be curious and want to shake it around. that works for some people but wasn't successful for us.

just put a little bit of liquid in and let them play. after a while it'll find its way into their mouths and eventually they'll make the connection that sucking on the spout yields a delicious beverage.

We started introducing them around 8-9 months, once the babies seemed to understand holding things with 2 hands. I started with only water because that way it wasn't messy if they spilled. At first they mainly chewed on the cup and threw it on the floor and I would hold it to their mouth once or twice to see if they would suck on it. We also tried 5 or 6 different ones and had the best luck with the Nuby. They drink water from them great now and are just learning to take milk from them (they'll be 1 next week). I am really against sweet beverages, so they haven't done anything else.

I introduced them to sippies at 6 months & the Nuby soft spouts were great for the kids learning how to use a sippy. Eventually we did go on to the Munchkin straw sippies once they got closer to a year old. I offered the sippies throughout the day and at first, don't be surprised if they do more playing with the sippy then actual drinking. I saved the formula for the bottles and just put water in the sippies. I also would show them how to drink from it. Good luck!

We started around 6 months & I would give them the sippies a couple of times a day with just water in them. They mostly played with them for quite awhile but they eventually learned what they were supposed to do with them.

I introduced them at six months as well. It's going to take time to figure which ones they like best. For the boys, I originally got them ones with handles. Those they didn't take to too well. So I ended up with the Take & Toss ones-and those were perfect for them! For Annabella, I got her handle ones, and she did ok with them-but I find the ones that have the stopper inside the cup, make it more difficult for them to drink from. So I don't think they "get it" right away. The Take and Toss ones I got the boys-there was no stopper, so the fluid flowed freely!

Annabella just turned a year old, and she still hasn't figured out the sippy cup. Just give it to them on a regular basis and they will figure it out. My boys were at least a year old when they figured it out-that's when I was more consistent on giving it to them!
