Last Thursday (May 31st) I was sprung from my bedrest temporarily to go to the twice-weekly NST at my local hospital. There, my little boy's heartrate was a little elevated so the doctor (knowing my history of PIH and preeclampsia) ordered a blood test. It showed that my liver enzymes were elevated and my platelets were dropping putting me fully into preeclampsia and also at a risk for HELLP. They shipped me by ambulance to the high risk hospital 45 minutes away where it was determined to deliver the twins via C-section that evening.

Nina Yvette was born at 11:43 p.m. weighing 4 lb. 7 oz., 18 inches long
Mitchell Edward was born at 11:46 p.m. weighing 3 lb. 5 oz., 16.5 inches long

Picture links are attached underneath. :D

Nina and Mitchell are doing REALLY well for 33 weekers. Those steroid shots I got at 32 weeks really worked well! They have both been on room air from the beginning and started taking bottles when they were about 18 hours old. They are still in the NICU but we are hopeful to have them home in a couple weeks. They have progressed every day and the set-backs have been minor. Mitchell is still in an isolette but Nina graduated to a crib a few days ago. They started breastfeeding and I've been pumping like a fiend - or trying to. Luckily, with the help of the lactation consultants we've had some success the last couple days with both of them and breastfeeding. They are actually doing a lot better at it than my daughter did. Their bottle feedings have increased each day and other than size (just barely 4 pounds and 3 pounds right now) they seem to be remarkably healthy. We are truly blessed. I'm having a tough time emotionally with leaving them in the hospital every day and driving the hour home. UGH. I know it will all be over soon though.

Thanks to everyone here for your support over the last 7 months! I'll see you on the FY forum!

Here are the photos. I hope I did this right. I've never used Photobucket before.

Oh how sweet. They are both cutie pies. I know you are ready to have them at home. It will happen soon. Your little babies sound like they are doing very well. My oldest was in NICU for a week and it is very very hard to leave without them and go home and sleep at night. I am glad that they are coorporating with the breastfeeding. Take care.

TOO CUTE - Congrats! My cuties were born at 34 w due to pre-e and, like yours, did very well from the beginning (i think also b/c of the steroid shots I'd gotten). They only needed 6 days in the nicu so hopefully yours won't need very long!
