Hi all, I'm Jenn, I'm 23, and my husband and I just found out last month that we're expecting twins.

It's been a pretty anxiety-inducing pregnancy so far... for starters, it's my first - I had problems between weeks 6-8 with spotting. I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks which confirmed that I'm pregnant with twins. I was referred to a perinatal specialist, who said that everything was the way he wanted to see it in a twin pregnancy (heartbeat for each one, cervix closed, no clots, etc.).

However, I'm not feeling so good about it... I don't really FEEL pregnant. For some odd reason my symptoms peaked at 5 weeks, and now I basically have nothing to go by: no nausea, sore breasts, anything, really. I'm thirstier and hungrier than usual, but I can't help but chalk that up to coincidence.

Also, I'm not sure that I can even feel my uterus - shouldn't I be able to at 10 1/2 weeks, especially with twins?? I'm not sure if it's because I'm very slightly overweight (134 and 5'1") or what. There IS some kind of hardness just above my pelvic bone, but I'm not sure if it's something else getting pushed forward by my uterus, or if it's been there the whole time.. unfortunately I didn't really pay attention to that before I got pregnant. I took some pictures of my belly at 5, 9, and 10 weeks, and maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but it seems more like fat than baby belly... but I don't know. If you want to check out the picture, it's here: http://i30.tinypic.com/244ays4.jpg

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and also see if anyone can relate to the two aforementioned issues. Any advice and personal experience is greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on your twins! That is very exciting and very overwhelming news. We've all been there!
Good thing you aren't feeling too uncomfortable yet; you may never experience all the "joy" of twin pregnancy (sarcasm, lol). People experience pregnancy in different ways. I never got morning sickness once the whole time, just some food aversions around my 15-25 weeks.

I know it's hard but try not to worry. It sounds like your OB and Peri have you in good hands.

    Welcome to Twinstuff!!

    Welcome Jenn:

Everything that you have stated sounds good. You seem to be coming along fine. I really would not worry about how big you are now. For the first three and a half months I had nausea and vomiting. I lost over 15 pounds. However, now, at 19weeks, my belly has made the pop. I think it might have to do with being a first pregnancy and your body; every body is different. Just hang in there and be patient.

Hello.. and Congratulations on twins. I am just a little further then you at 13 weeks.. however this is my 8th pregnancy so things are for sure a little different for me.

First off.. I never had m/s at all.. nursed my 9 month old until 2 weeks ago when I found out I was having twins and never had sore breasts at all. The only symptoms I have of even being pregnant is hunger (oh.. and that grows every day..lol) thirst and fatigue (sometimes extreme). I think that we are just lucky with this so try to enjoy it as much as possible.

2nd.. your belly looks great.. being pregnant with your first baby you are not going to show as early as some. I can see a little growth in the last picture though. As far as feeling your uterus.. well..if you don't know what you are feeling for it will be hard to feel it.. ask your OB to show you at your next appointment so that you know what you are looking for. At 10 1/2 weeks with twins and first pregnancy.. I would say its probably JUST peaking out from under your pelvic bone.

I agree with what was PP.. try not to worry to much.. it sounds like you have a great team of dr.s working with you. Do you know what kind of twins you are expecting (mo/mo, mo/di, di/di )

Welcome and congratulations!!! Everybody is different. I never had morning sickness with any of my pregnancies. I haven't gained any weight to speak of so far with my twins. I have only gained 10 lbs at 21 weeks. I am sure that will change very soon! However, I did get thirsty like you wouldn't believe. I am still thirsty all the time. I drink water like it is going out of style. I did have cravings and still do at times. (Spicy-I believe is my boy and sweet-I believe is my girl) That's how it was with previous and now that I am pg with one of each, LOL... I can't get enough of either. I have noticed that my liking for foods have changed. I use to eat chicken and loved veggies (like carrots, green beans, peas, etc.) Now I can't stand to even consider eating them. Corn is about the only veggie I can tolerate, unless it is "veggies" on a hamburger. KFC mash and gravy... hello! LOL!

Anyway, there are times even at 24 weeks that I "forget" I am pg... till the twins remind me by kicking! Funny how you just get use to it. It took me a while to "feel" pg and it will probably be the same with you. Enjoy feeling good. You may never get morning sickness with any future pgs either. I haven't ever had trouble with being pg and I love being pg. (I guess that's why I have so many children!) By the time you hit 20 weeks, you will definately feel pg, and know that those little ones are in there. Enjoy and again congrats! :sign0016:

Don't worry about your size. My midwives said "you absolutely do not have multiples" everytime I asked since they run in my family. At my 19 week ultrasound, I proved them wrong with two heads on the screen. Needless to say, I didn't see them for the rest of my pregnancy and went to a peri and OBGYN for the rest of the duration. Congrats! Also don't worry about not feeling them (when that time comes). I didn't feel mine until about 25 weeks and even then it wasn't consistent.

    Welcome and Congrats!!!

Try not to worry too much! (Easier said than done, I know!)

I didn't start showing until 17wks or so, you still have plenty of time to feel your uterus. Plus, with this being your first, you'll show and feel it later than someone on their second.

And I never had any symptoms until I was half way. (That's when my cravings started!)

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

(This site is great, btw! It's how I stayed somewhat sane through my pregnancy!)

Congrats and welcome. You sound a little like myself when I was at your stage in pregnancy. I was posting all the time on this board about how I did not feel preg. The ladies would encourage me to be grateful that I was feeling good. Well, now I am 17 weeks and 5 days and for the last two days I really really feel pregnant for the first time and I know what they meant. Soon enough you will start feeling more syptoms. I do totally understand what you mean, it can be worrisome. I am your same height and weight. I did not really feel my uterus until the last couple of weeks. I am sure it was there but not as obvious as it became around 15 weeks.

My best advise is to relax, think positively, and enjoy this website. You will learn a lot! Good luck to you.

Congrats! You are very lucky to be "not feeling pregnant". Try to enjoy this time. I haven't had one day with this pregnancy that hasn't been rough. I can understand your worries, but a few more weeks you'll be in the safe zone and hopefully you'll continue to feel well for as long as possible. When is your next Dr appointment? You should be able to hear their heart beats soon which is always reassuring. :)

I'm not sure... they each have their own gestational sac, but I'm not sure if that still means that they can be monochorionic (shared placenta, right?) I'll have to ask that at my next appointment.

My next appointment (I really hope!) is on the 14th. I'm having issues w/insurance (no routine maternity benefits) and I'm in the process of trying to get Medicaid coverage... my ob/gyn won't continue to see me if I don't have coverage. So if that falls through, who knows when I'll be seen next, and by whom :(

I can't wait to hear the heartbeats, too! My ob/gyn said I should be able to hear them at this next appointment, since I'll be 11w6d by then, but again, that's if all goes according to plan.

Congratulations and welcome to Twinstuff! As you've seen, it's perfectly normal to be worried during your pregnancy. :hug99:

Like you, I never could feel my uterus. It didn't even start measuring big until after 16 weeks and then it was only by a tiny bit. With the twins, I grew out of my pre-pregnancy jeans pretty quickly but I was thin at that time. With my second pregnancy I had some extra weight still and it did take a lot longer for the belly to really show up. Also with the twins, I had a very easy 1st trimester. No nausea or anything. It was great so enjoy it. :) It was with my singleton that I actually had the all-day morning sickness so you never know how the pregnancy is going to affect you. Every pregnancy is different. Have a wonderful appointment next week!
