I will apologize first if there is tmi, i dont mean it. I have been put on bedrest (modified) and pelvic rest for the last 2 wks and will probably be like this til they arrive, I was told no sex!! im gay(lesbian) and we dont exactly have sex, it is mostly outside the area, but she has been so scared to do anything because doesnt want to start Ptl or make my bh worse than what they already are. I havent asked my dr because i thought it might be to much information for him to know. I want to but we havent since i was about 12wks. Should we keep it this way? for the safety of the babies? does no sex mean intercoarse or when they say thay does it mean they dont want any type of orgasm? just felt mor comfortable talking to you ladies about it. thanks again sorry if tmi

My understanding is no anything. The hormones that are triggered can cause contractions. So even if it's not intercourse it doesn't matter you shouldn't do it.

(I know it sucks. I've been on pelvic rest since almost the beginning...I think I've forgotten what sex is! )

I know that every since at the very beginning of the pregnancy when I read that nipple stimulations can bring on contractions, my husband isn't allowed anywhere near that area.

That was my understanding too, no orgasms of any kind. And yes it sucks!

i would think no ANYTHING, especially if you are also on pelvic rest. I know this may be really hard, especially when you say there may be no penetration, but i think the pp is correct in saying that orgasms and stuff can trigger ptl and change your hormones. Did the dr tell you why he has put you on rest this way? cervical changes etc?

i went in for minor contractions and some bleeding at 22wks and thats when he took me off work and put me on pelvic rest and bedrest. the following week i tripped on my stairs because no one was home to get me food so i had to make a trip downstairs, went to l & d again and i was having minor contractions again they gave me shot of terb to stop it. i get bh alot but my cervix has only changed .1cm in the last 2 wks so i dont know if thats a big change or not. im changing drs in dec so maybe this one will lift some restrictions off, but since ive been on rest i can tell that i dont swell near as much and i dont have as many bh so i guess there is a reason to lay down all day.

and i agree with everyone else i shouldnt do anything and i will continue not too, thanks all!!

You should ask your doc. Mine said intercourse was ok for me as long as I feel comfortable. She said it is not the act of sex or even having an orgasim that can bring on pre-term labor it is the semen, which she said will thin out the cervix.

When I was on pelvic rest in the first tri, they said no intercourse and no orgasms. :(

My understanding was no orgasms, no nipple stim, NOTHING. Orgasms cause contractions in the uterus, nipple stim can do the same. I am so sorry for you and your partner!

I'm on bed rest and pelvic rest since 15 weeks and will be until delivery. I was told nothing can go in the vaginal area and no orgasms at all. He did not mention nipple stimulation so we've continued with that. The pelvic rest is worse then the bed rest in my opinion!!
