They are the worst <_< Does anyone else have to have these at their monthly ultrasounds???

Funny story... I was getting ready to leave for my ultrasound.. my first one at a new clinic that my OB uses, anyway I said to my mom, I hope they don't make me wear a gown b/c I didn't shave my legs. (total oversight, I showered and it didn't even cross my mind -- double placenta brain maybe?! ) I get to the clinic and of course have to sport a lovely paper gown. I apologized for my hairy legs, the tech just laughed and said that's ok. THEN she tells me that I'll be having an internal ultrasound that day too  Honestly I could've DIED. I'd rather drink the water... there's something just not right about them

Yeah, they are not fun. I only had one at my first OB appt. at 10 weeks. After that, they were all the regular ones on my belly. How far along are you?

i had one every 2 weeks until 32 weeks, then no more. They're a bit...odd...but not uncomfortable or anything. Besides, the techs are always very professional.

I have one at every u/s, every three weeks to check the length of my cervix. As pp said, it's an odd feeling but nothing uncomfortable. Plus, it is nice to have the reassurance that your cervix isn't shortening too early.

Oy! I've been there, done that! I was so apologetic about it and they just laughed it off because I'm sure they've seen worse then hairy legs. ;) I only had the internal u/s done at 6.5 and 8.5 weeks, after that it was all on the belly.

I hate them too, and they are sometimes painful for me. I've had a lot due to all my issues with TTC and to monitor the IVF process, but never during pregnancy. But the first couple times I had them (not part of my infertility treatment) the tech handed me the wand and told me to put it in. I was like are you kidding me?? She was not. I'm like I'm sorry, but there's no way I can do that. So she did, but she made me feel very uncomfortable about it and I left there thinking I was abnormal for not wanting to put it in myself. I went to her a few times and every time she handed it to me and every time I said no way. It wasn't until my later frequent ultrasounds with infertility that I realized that was not the norm! Now I wish I had told my OB about it, since he's the one that kept referring me to her.

I get one every month when I see the Peri to check the length of my cervix, Thank god I'm not easily embarrised or shy cause the tech there doesn't leave the room when you get to that part she just says ok its time for the internal hands you a paper sheet and you drop ya pants. Most offices leave for that part but I guess she figures your about to deliver two babies might as well loose your inabitions now...LOL

My peri's done them monthly since 18 weeks, prior I always just had the regular U/S except at the very begining because if your to early the internal shows more.

NOOOO WAY  I'd DIE. I'm 24 weeks, so I'll be getting them monthly until I deliver. My first one was at 22 weeks so I go again in a few weeks. It isn't painful... just a really awkward feeling, it feels wrong to me

I had them almost every 2-3 weeks for cervix check and it is transvaginal and after that I am having transabdominal for babies check. so I always have both at each peri visit.

I have them every two weeks at the peri to check my cervix, but I've had probably 50 with all my IVFs!! After a while, you don't even think twice about having them done. Although my peri apologized the first time :D and said "this is probably the last thing you want to have done...again."

But you do what you gotta do, right ?

I have had a ton bc of fertility issues and mc and I hated them all...I had them until 10 weeks pg.

But a funny story about them...I was having pain about 2 years ago so they sent me for an internal sono to check for cysts and stuff. I called ahead and made sure it was okay to bring the babies and they said yes it will be a quick sono. So I get there and they tell me that the internal wand is not working correctly and they have to cancel. I was ticked bc I called ahead and they just said they didn't think about it. I said is it broke broke or can they see if its working. I said I would do anything since I had gotten the babies out, got a sitter for my other two and was already there. Then she said, well it works but its got an issue. I was like...seriously, I don't care lets just do it now and get it over with. She then said "well we can't figure out whats wrong with it but it vibrates"......I was like "oh thats okay I will reschedule.."....I can't even imagine being the person having the sono done who had to tell that it was vibrating!!!

Well I can't get the quote thingy to work, but Jen, I dang near peed myself laughing so hard over the vibrating sono wand problem!!!! OMG that was good!

To the OP, I don't get them monthly, but I had several transvaginal ultrasounds from wk 6 due to being an IVFer...that's how they check for a heartbeat so early in pregnancy. Then when I was released to my OB I had a few more up to week 12-ish because of bleeding issues that eventually resolved. They weren't too bad, just a little uncomfortable.

It's funny how different offices handle things. At my OB's office, the tech handed me to wand so I could insert it, and that really took me by surprise. I did, but I left feeling like I should've received some sort of discount or something, lol. Oh well. I haven't had a internal check since then, not even for monitoring cervix length, just belly ultrasounds. I'm told at week 34 they start checking the cervix. Seems kinda late seeing how many women on here get diagnosed with shortening/thinning/funneling pretty early in pregnancy and that's an important criteria for bed rest....but that's a whole other topic.

2x a month here for cervical checks, just as long as I'm closed, it doesn't bother me.

    About the vibrating one..

I was surprised with the idea of the internal one at about 22 weeks.. and my husband was there, and he thought it was weird that I would ask him to leave. So there have been lots of jokes since then. 'Nuff said. My techs also ask me to insert it myself, I guess because it gives you a little more privacy? But, after a few rounds of it, it's not a big deal.. I figure whatever it takes to make sure that everything's ok. They have come up with all kinds of torture devices for women, and that one is hardly the worst.
