Insurance for MX bike

Hi,

I'm looking at getting a Yamaha YZ85LW bike for my son who's 13 and was wondering about insurance. I understand I can add the bike to our household insurance, but is it possible to get insurance to cover damage/theft when it's in transit or being used on the track? I tried a few brokers but they all seem to do road bikes only. Any help appreciated.

Yes you can insure it for theft. The damage part I’ve heard of people doing before but good luck getting paid out. It’s a “competition” track and bike. Just like everything else insurance they will try to fight any small thing in a claim they can.

 

I got mine covered through sundaysinsurance.co.uk. It was one of the few places I found that didn’t make it a hassle to insure an MX bike, even if it's not road legal. They actually understood what I needed and didn’t treat it like some alien request. Price was fair, and the process was quick without too much back and forth.
