Hello all, I am 18 weeks prego w/ boy/girl twins. Due to my serious history of pre-term deliveries my peri has put me on progestrone injections. I have to take one shot every week until I deliver, ouch! I just got my third shot.. I have found very good results on this treatment for singleton pregnancies, but absolutely NO info w/ twins. Anyone have any experience or info? Would be much appriciated!

I'm on them too. My midwife put me on them and had double checked with the peri in the hospital. The peri is wonderful and I trust her totally (she consulted on my first baby - and pretermPROM). So, we may have similar histories. Anyway, it seems to have no harmful side-effects so we are going with it. It does sting a little and I have developed knots in my butt some weeks. But, it seems to be doing the trick so far. Oh, the things we go through for these babies.

hi , I will also be on these , starting next week due to PROM @ 16 weeks & delivering @ 28 weeks my last pregnancy.... For those of you on the p17 shots , are you taking them yourself at home , or is the Dr. office giving them to you? My ob wasnt sure yet how he was going to handle me getting these shots ?

I get these every thrusday and my nurse just left. She comes to my house checks the babies heart rates, my blood pressure, etc...its great....

Anyways if you ice the area before you get the shot it does not hurt...the first time I though I would pass out from the pain (I was standing up) Lay down ice for atleast 10 mins, and honeslty I hardly feel it....

I know that they have no results for twins but with no side effects it can't hurt to try. Good luck everyone

Nice to know someone else is understanding my pain [IMG] Yes, I get them at home every Tuesday. I'm a nurse and so is my mom, so it's no big deal. Any of you get nausous the day after your shot?

My husband gives them to me. He is a veterinarian - OF CATTLE!!!! I think he thinks my butt is a big old rump roast!! Haha. Actually he is very good. I think I may the ice thing. It makes sense. I just feel a little burning after it's all in. Except one time while he was giving it, I said what ever you are doing STOP! He admitted he was wiggling a little bit on accident - Ouch.

I think the best thing is to relex and NOT use the alcohol swabs. They really do not kill any/many germs in the tiny amount of time the alcohol is on your skin and it makes me jump even more anticipating the stick. Also, I always try to relax my butt muscle and watch TV while holding a pillow and even lately have been practicing my breathing techniques from labor classes.

Mine tend to itch quite a bit through the week. I can almost always tell which cheek is ready to be stuck as the one we most recently did has a knot in it or is itchy. This only happened in the last month or so, I think my body is getting angry over having the drug every week. Usually it's a reaction to a carrier in the product that makes you have a stinging or an itching or a knot. I'm just picked up my last (crossing fingers) 5 week supply.

Good luck!!!! I really think it calms my uterus down. I usually notice the day before we are due for the shot, more BH and tightness and then it calm down after the shot.

No nausea here. I guess our bodies all react differently.

I was on PIO at the beginning of my pregnancy. My best piece of advice is to GO SLOW!!! Taking about 5 min. per shot (I was on them daily for 2 months) was the biggest thing that helped with knots and pain. My husband gave me the shots; he would even draw the needle out slowly. Hopefully this helps [IMG]

I did the P17 shots from weeks 17 until 33 I think (or 32.5). My water broke at 35.2 weeks...so I guess it worked. This was my first pregnancy so I don't have anything to compare it to, but like the pp said, what could it hurt? My husband did the shots...he was pretty good. We iced the area well, and I tried to relax as well. Also, I laid still for a good 20 minutes after, because the oil tended to leak out otherwise.

    Good luck!

I did the shots for about 6 weeks. I had them two times per week. Part of the time I received them I was in the hospital, but the other half was here at home with an at-home nurse that visited 2x a week for NSTs and the shots.

I do not recall them being too painful, or suffering from any side effects. It was just one more thing to keep those babies from making an early debut.

Does anyone recall how much a vial of these shots are , in case my Doc does have me do them at my own home instead of his office.. My peri had mentioned that these shots are not FDA regulated & I was just curious on the price incase my insurance wont cover them when I go to the dr's office.....

I also was on prog in oil until week 12..so if they are similar I'm thinking I can handle it[IMG]

    Thanks

I think it's the same as what you've already been on. My insurance covers it 100%. How nice is that.

Mostly your doctors will put you on it if you have a history of preterm labor.
