Dani has an ear infections. The doctor said to give her tylenol for her fever and the pain in addition to the amocillian.
DH went to the store to buy more since we are all out of infants tylenole (all 3 bottles empty). He came home with childrens tylenol.
What age did you switch to childrens vs the infants?

My girls are 21 month olds.

I didn't use the children's version until my boys were over two years old. That's the minimum age of the dosing recommendations on the bottle. You might need to call someone to get the proper dosage for your girls. I hope Dani feels better soon.

Funny...I just went through this myself. The Children's Motrin was on sale and so much cheaper, I went ahead and bought it since my girls are almost 2. They just turned 22 months.

Before I switched, I called their doctor and confirmed that it would be ok and to find out the dosage.

My girls are light weights, only 21 and 22 lbs. I was told they could have the minimum dosage - 1 tsp. And it's seems to be working much better I noticed too.

I'm pretty sure my daughter has an ear infection at the moment too. I'm taking her in tomorrow for antibiotics.

I'd just call their doctor and check. I'm sure you'll get a green light. Especially if they meet the weight requirement.

We were using children's motrin and tylenol at 12 months. It's perfectly fine. It's not as concentrated as the infant's version so for the Tylenol, you could go 4 ml ( just over 3/4 tea ) and for the motrin can go about 3 ml to start and if the pain is THAT major, maybe 3/4 tea but I'd try to start lower and work up as needed. Same dosing schedule...every 4 to 6 hours as needed.

I agree it's fine to switch. Here is another thread on the same subject.

We switched to Children's at about 18 months I think.

I think we switched at about 18 mths here as well. Seems to work better and our pediatrician said it was fine.

Here (scroll down a little to see the chart) is a dosage chart you might find helpful. It tells you when it is appropriate to give which kind and how much.

Our pediatrician mentioned that we could switch at their 12 month appointment. He gave us a dosage chart by weight.

I actually give Skylar Children's Tylenol sometimes because it goes by weight and Sky is 24 lbs.

Our pediatrician told us to switch at 18 months. The bottles are much bigger so I don't feel like I'm buying it quite as often. Our pedi said the big difference was concentration. Because infants usually have to be given the med by syringe, it's easier if you only have to give 1.0 or 1.2 mL versus a full teaspoon. Our kids still prefer the syringe, but they love to suck it out themselves. You might want to call your dr for the correct dosage since it goes by weight.

I use the infants version (1.2 ml) when I need to get it in them- it's less volume that way. I use the children's when I mix with food- 3/4 tsp for us. Our pedi gave us a dosing chart at 12 months- just recommended to be very cautious about dosing and what bottle we were using- don't get it confused. I write in permanent marker what the dose is right on the bottle- it's not like they are growing a pound everyday to where the dosage would change.
