Around what age do you switch from infant to children's medicines?

I did it after they turned two. The children's version only has dosing recommendations for ages two and up. One exception was Benadryl which doesn't have an infant version (or at least I couldn't find one). I had to give Adam some Bendryl after a case of hives when he was about 20 months. I called the ped for the dosage amount.

It is so much cheaper to buy children's tylenol and motrin than it is to buy infants. Dr Sears has a page called Medicine Cabinet and he converts it for you. Ive been buying childrens instead of infants for a while now because of teething.

I wouldnt give a baby pseudophed now since they put out the warning about babies dying from cold medicine. I have given my boys benadryl when they were congested.

Hi! My babies are actually already taking children's motrin and tylonel. My pedi gave me the doses for their weight. She said that the infant version is just concentrated so that you don't have to give as much. They take 3/4 tsp when they need them.

I switched for Tylenol/Motrin/Benadryl at 1 year. My ped gave me a chart of dosages based on weight. I still give the infant Tylenol Cold when they have a runny nose.

We probably switched sometime last summer. We always go by weight and since our kids have always been on the large size we were given the ok to switch.

we switched when they were about 24 pounds. My ped at that weight I can give them what it says for a 2 year old.
It is much less expensive and much easier since I also have a 2/5 year old. For Chidlren's motrin, they get 1 tsp.

It's the same stuff, just the infants is more concentrated so the dose is smaller. But you can give a baby the "children's" version, it is the same medicine but not as concentrated so the dosage is more. Whichever one you give it is based on weight. Except you are paying twice as much for the infant's medicine. It is a rip off.

We switched at about 18 months. We also go by weight.

We also got a chart from the pedi that does the conversions for all the different types (acetaminophen, ibuprofen) in the different forms (infants, children's) for different weight ranges. We still have some infant stuff but have new boxes of the children's versions on standby for whenever we run out. Also the pedi told us we could do a 1/2 teaspoon of Benedryl or children's Pediacare (we use the cough medication sometimes but not the decongestant w/ pseudoephedrine) when the girls had colds at around 20 months.
