I was wondering how many of you have had an infant CPR class. I took one years ago & probably should update now. I have noticed lately a lot of posts about feeding babies finger foods & how nervous we all are about choking. I remember after having the course feeling a lot less stressed about it. Of course I still did everything I could to prevent it (no one wants their baby to choke!) but just having the knowledge of exactly how to handle it if it should happen & feeling confident that I could deal with it made a huge difference in my stress level when it came to feeding the kids. My husband is a firefighter & they are the ones who teach the courses here, I think they are well worth the time it takes! Have any of you taken a similar course? Did you find that you were less nervous after?

I took one at the beginning of May. I certainly listened much more this time than I ever had. I still think I would totally freak out if one of mine really started choking.

I took one a couple yrs ago when I was working in a daycare/preschool. I could use another class, but I feel confident that can handle the situation if need be. :) I would definitely recommend a CPR class to any parent.

I CANNOT stress the importance of taking these classes. My DH and I were shown *briefly* how to do infant CPR before we left the NICU. We had Will home 6 hours and he went into cardiac arrest. My DH had to perform the CPR that we were shown that morning. Please please please take these classes. It will save your babies life if it is ever needed.

I agree it is definitely an excellent idea. You never know when the time could come that you would need to know how to do CPR.

We took a CPR/child safety class that was offered under our hospital's pre-natal classes. Just an FYI - CPR instructions changed recently so what you may have learned more than 1-1.5 years ago is different. I would say definitely do it.

I took one when my 10 yr old was 20 days old and stopped breathing. - THANK GOD because he did it again at 13 months!!
it saved my son's life - I have been certified every year since!! in adult and child CPR
I am a firm believer in CPR - with out it my Jared would not be here.

Us too, but it was 1 1/2 hrs long and we were so scared to take them home we paid close attention. Fortunately we havent needed it, but it is very important to be prepared.

The NICU made us take the class before we could take the boys home. I have been certified several times before. But in the last couple years CPR has changed. I'm glad I took the Class. Now I know there are more compressions and less breaths recommended.

My hubby and I have been adult and infant cpr certified for years now due to our jobs. We get re-cert'ed every year. The pp are correct, there have been some significant changes in infant cpr recently and anyone should get updated if they have not been. I urge EVERYONE to get certified. I have had to give infnat cpr several times..with only one passing away because we were not able to get to her in time and the parents had no clue what to do. Now that I have my own little monsters, it means so much more to me to know what to do in case of an emergency.

I took a few in high school(many moons ago!)because I was in the Child Development series of classes. And then when Hannah was born, we were required to take it before we left the NICU with her. If you have never taken it, I would highly recommend doing so.
