Well, I go in for an induction early in the morning. I wish I knew play by play what was going to happen. My plan was to labor at home as long as possible, then go to the hospital to do everything as naturally as possible. Course, you know what they say, "If you want to hear G-d laugh, tell Him your plans." That is about the truth of it!

My doula thinks that just a whif of Pitocin will get me going since I have been having contractions for 3 weeks now. I hope she is right. I am apprehensive...and excited...I am gonna be a mom tomorrow, scary! Send out some prayers, please, for a vaginal birth. Both were head down last Wed, so prospects are good. I was at 1 cm.

Any advice on this whole thing, (pitocin, labor, birth, when the swelling will go away), is appreciated. Thanks for all your help thus far, ladies. And Happy 4th of July to those in the States.

I was induced with DS2 not even a year ago.
I went in at 5:30 in the morning and got to just kind of rest and relax (didn't sleep at all the night before!) until my OB came in at 8:30 to break my water. It was a little uncomfortable for a second and then it just felt like I was peeing everywhere. I can't remember if they started the pitocin before or after that...probably just before.

The contractions were pretty mild at first and then gradually got more difficult to get through. I had one really intense one that made me decide to get the epidural (but, that was a personal choice), which really helped a ton. I got to sleep for a good two hours (another thing that helped me when it came time for delivery), visit with friends and family, and then by 4:10, I was ready to push. He was born at 4:16 after about four pushes.

It honestly all went by very quickly and very uneventfully, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that the same goes for you! Good luck tomorrow!

I've never had an induction but my twin sister did with her first... it went very smoothly.. she was able to get the epidural when she felt that she needed it, I think it was maybe 3 or 4 hours after they started her induction....maybe around the time they finally broke her baby's water... After getting the epidural she went from a 4 to a 10 in an hour and was pushing then. Her whole induction process only took maybe 6-8 hours total if I remember correctly... Not nearly as long as my 18 hour "natural" labor with my first. So sometimes inductions can be a blessing. Don't be too scared of the epidural.. I know some people are afraid of the epidural slowing things down, but in my case and my twin sister's case the epidural actually helped our bodies relax and really sped things up.

Amy! Best of luck to you and your babies. You will do fine. I had pitocin with all of my vaginal deliveries(2 induced, 1 just to speed up the process), and you will do fine. I can't wait to welcome you, Ben and Yael to FY!!! :hug99:

PS...you might actually be a little more swollen after the birth for awhile because of all of the fluids that they will give you.

I was on Pitocin but showing NO signs of labor when I was induced (due to pre-e). I was all about the epidural. I am a WIMP with pain so I asked for it as soon as I could. I ended up with a c-sec because baby A was face up and they couldn't turn her. I was more swollen after but it seems once you get home you just pee, pee, pee away. I think my swelling was gone in about a week and I felt great about 3 weeks later.

Good Luck! My induction with DS lasted 19 hours but once I got the epi, I went from a 4 to a 10 in an hour like PP said and he was out in 30 minutes....so I would seriously consider one especially if you're not progressing!

    Hi,

First of all good luck! I was induced too. Things went very smooth. I was already 4 1/2 cm dialated though never had a lot of contractions. They started me on the Pitocin, then broke my waters 2 hours later (when I was about 5 1/2 cm), and then they basically had to turn off the Pitocin because my body took over completely and went into labor on it's own (well with a little help). Since I had one breech baby (babyB) and they were planning on doing a breech extraction the hospital wanted me to have an epidural in case of an emergency c/s on baby B. I would have taken it anyway, so that was not an issue for me. Two hours after my water broke I was complete and they wheeled me to the OR. I pushed 5 times for my girl and she came out very easily. My boy did not turn so they did perform a breech extraction and he was born 4 minutes later. He was in a little distress because of his fast delivery, but recovered very quickly (Apgar 5/9).

They were 7lbs11oz and 7lbs10oz, but since my oldest was already 9lbs2oz this was very easy for me (I had a very very long and hard labor with my first, mainly due to her size and being a ftm).

Overall, it was smooth, hardly any pain, very fast, swelling went down very very quickly (and it was extremely bad in one leg due to the weight of the babies ... I had u/s done to check for blood clots in my leg). My legs were back to normal in a week or so, but even after 48 hours it was a huge difference!

My time line ... 4.30 am in the hospital. Pitocin started at 6 am, broke water at 8.00 am (5 1/2 cm), got epidural soon after, 10 am, 9 1/2 cm dialated to OR ... baby A 10.32 am, baby B 10.36 am. So 4 1/2 hours after they started the Pitocin ...

    Again, good luck!

Good luck to you and best wishes for a smooth vaginal birth! I know the babies will cooperate and having a doula should be really helpful in getting you through things. I had a good friend who is also a doula in my first birth and she was completely wonderful and invaluable to my DH and me.

You are going to do great and I can't wait to hear your birth story. I am heading in for a U/S tommorow and am praying that my boys will be head down and ready to go pretty soon too.

    Takec care!
