HI ladies- Just got back from my 27 week appointment, and my cervix is a fricken 2cm long! It was 3.7cm just 3 weeks ago. Im now on modified bedrest and got the steroid shots for the babies "just in case"
I am freaked out about having them come this early, I guess I am looking for positive stories from people who were in similar situations and went on to carry to at least 32 weeks.....
    Thanks!

At my 20 week appt. my cervix was 0.5 cm long and funneling. I was put on strict bedrest. At my 23 week appt. I was 4 cm dialated and obviously no cervix left. They put in an emergency cerclage, and again was put on very strict bedrest. My cervix was back to 0.9 cm with the stitch. At 33 weeks my water broke, but my cervix was still the same as at 23 weeks.
Bedrest is no fun, but well worth it. There are a lot of people who made it very far on a very short cervix. Hang in there, and take it very easy.

First , :sign0016: to TS! and congrats on your twins!

Now down to business! At 28 weeks I went from 4.5 to 2.5 with funneling in 1 week's time. I was put on modified bedrest, but I was scared out of my mind, so I put myself on strict bedrest, only up for a 5 min shower and potty breaks for 9 weeks, and delivered 2 healthy babies at 37 weeks! My advice to you is LAY DOWN! I fully believe that bedrest kept my babies from a long stay at the hospital. Other things that can help you, water, water, and more water, will help with the contractions. Protein shakes like Boost or Ensure will help put some weight on the babies, I drank 3 a day. TS will help keep you sane! :hug99: s! Hang in there momma!

  4. Well I'm not 32 weeks yet (I'll be 30wks. on Monday), but the same thing happened to me only at 20 weeks. My cervix was long and shut at the previous appointment just 2 weeks before and at the next, it had funneled to 1.9cm with a bulging bag. I had an emergency cerclage put in and have been on bed rest ever since (also for irritable uterus). I've had several appointments since then and everything seems to be going fine. She seems to be convinced that I will still make it to 36 weeks and she's not exactly the most optimistic of doctors. She really likes to scare you. So the point is, I think you're going to be just fine because you're much farther along than I was. Like you I'm holding my breath to get to every little milestone. At 32 weeks I think I will finally be able to breathe. Just hang in there. You don't have long! By the way, were you having contractions before they discovered this? :hug99:
Oh yeah, and I agree, chug as much water down as possible. I absolutely hated drinking water before this all started and now I'm up to 100oz. a day.

At 29 weeks I was measuring under 2cm, with strict bedrest I was able to hang in there until just over 36 weeks. I stayed horizontal every day and night except for bathroom visits and I truly believed it paid off to the fullest, neither of my babies needed a moment of time in the NICU.

Be very greatful that they have found this and you have the opportunity to be very pro-active in keeping those babies in... a friend of mine with a singleton, her first baby, was going to a midwife. She had some signs of possible PTL and the midwives dismissed her concerns at every turn. Even the day she had her baby they told her that what she was feeling was normal and not to go to the hospital... she ignored their advice, went to the hospital and was already at an 8cm dilated... she had her dd at 25 weeks... Thankfully her baby girl only spent 9wks in NICU with no issues.... but it could have turned out very, very differently.... It gives me chills to think that had this happened just a week or two earlier her baby might not have made it at all... So Thank God, you have the pre-warning and such great advice to follow.... with careful monitoring I'm sure your doctors will do what is necessary to help you keep those babies in....whether it's strict bedrest or a cerclage...or both...

At 16 weeks my cervix was .2cm and funneling, I had an emergency cerclage and spent the remainder of my pregnancy on bedrest. I made it to 31 weeks and delivered because one of my babies PROM'd, not because the cerclage gave out.

Bedrest is tough, but you can do it. It is the absolute best thing you can do for your babies. Drink a ton of water too!!

Well, everyone's situation is different but I think my story is positive. By 26 wks, I was dilating and 100% effaced. Ethan was at +1 station. It was too late for a cerclage and I had already been admitted twice and was on procardia at the time. It took 8 wks of hospital bedrest and 56 days straight on The Mag, but I was induced at 34w6d and took my cuties home with me when I left three days later.

Definately hang in there and stay positive!
