in utero weight differences

Hi everyone, this is my first post so I hope I'm doing this right! I just got back from an ultrasound (I am 27 weeks), and the doctor is having me come back next week because he is concerned about their weight differences. Baby A is 2 pounds 2 ounces and Baby B is 2 pounds 11 ounces. Last month, A was 1 pound 1 ounce and B was 1 pound 11 ounces, so they each gained a pound. We don't know what we are having, so I can't chalk the difference up to one being a girl and the other being a boy. The doctor wants to do a blood flow check next week to make sure that A is getting enough blood to the placenta- today everything looked fine, but he wants to make sure it keeps doing fine. I don't think I would be so panicked if he hadn't mentioned the word 'delivery' while he was talking to me about why this needs to be monitored. I am in no way ready to deliver these babies, and I don't think they are ready to be delivered either!

So any advice or personal stories about in utero weight differences would be appreciated. Part of me is not so concerned because they each gained a pound, but the other part of me is worried because I have to go back in a week. Has anyone else gone through this? How did it work out for you?

Are they di/di? My twins have measured differently the entire way, but because they are di/di, my OB hasn't been worried. Although there is a variation in estimated size, they both have consistently measured above average for their gestational age so we are confident they are growing okay. We believe mine are fraternal (I had infertility treatments andd released two eggs that cycle) and the OB said you can think of it as being two seperate pregnancies in a way. Just as two of your singletons wouldn't necessarily be the same exact size, neither would your fraternal twins.

I hope everything is okay with your babies!

Mine are always a few oz apart but at last u/s they were only 2 oz apart. My docs have never been concerned but I guess my girls are too close on weight anyway for it to be a concern.

I'll ditto the question if your twins are di/di or mo/di or mo/mo. With only one placenta there are more concerns or possible issues to consider than when each twin has his/her own placenta.

    Good luck.

  4. They each have their own placentas, I know that much. They checked the blood flow in Baby A's placenta and cord and brain, and it all looked good today, I guess they just want to check that it keeps looking good.

Mine are about a pound apart at this point (although I'm at the end so it's a little different). But my OB says that they only really start to be concerned if the difference exceeds 25%--seems like you're in the safe range at this point but they probably will want to monitor.
This did happen to a friend of mine around 29 weeks and she was put on bed rest for a few weeks and the situation resolved itself. She delivered at 37 weeks and one twin was definitely smaller than the other but they were/are both fine!

Mine were always almost a pound apart, no one was ever too concerned. When they were born they were 7oz apart. Ultrasounds are really only guesstimates anyways. good luck.
