On Monday I went to my regular OB appointment and he decided that I had to be admitted. I knew I was having a hard time with shortness of breath while walking but I didn't realize things were worse than that. I had gained 13 lbs water weight in 13 days! That is a pound a day!!! At that rate I would be bigger than a Sumo wrestler by the time I deliverd. Apparently, I have signs and symptoms of preeclampsia. My BP is better now in the 120-130 range, but when I came in it was elevated 157 to 139 systolic. My main problem now is that I'm not producing enough urine for my intake. My OB is watching it closely. I have a feeling that is going to be my downfall. You try so hard to keep them in and boom something like this and it's totally out of my hands. Has anyone else had preeclampsia with decreased urine output? Any advice?

    Mel,
Sorry to hear about your incarceration. That's how I referred to it too when I was admitted for PTL. My BP started spiking toward the end and my peri said I was headed straight for pre-e but we couldn't control the contractions long enough to find out for sure. So, no real experience there.

You've done great to get to 33wks. I'm hoping they'll be able to stabilize things enough for you to go another couple of weeks.

    Hang in there!

Well I have had preeclamspia twice. The first time with delivery at 27+4 and with the twins we made it to 32+3, I also have had HELLP which can go along with pe. Im glad you have been admitted, you are in the best place for close monitering. WIth preeclampsia it begins to affect your kidneys and liver, which is why you have a decreased urine output. Im assuming they have had you do a 24 hour urine? If they have do you happen to know how much protien you are spilling? How about your lab work? Preeclampsia can also turn into eclampsia which is a siezure because your bp gets too high and the swelling can happen in your brain as well...eclampsia is VERY rare though. IT can also cause HELLP syndrome, so if you experience pain under your right breast, make sure to let your nurse know ASAP. They will need to run labs to make sure your platelets are not dropping and they will check your kidney function.
Im sure they have told you most of the signs to look for since you are there but just so you have all the signs, check out this link, this will take you to the preeclampsia foundation signs and syptoms page, Signs and Symptoms

You can also check out the their forums there, you will get lots of good advice from women who have been there, heres a direct link PF

I will be thinking of you and let me know if you have any other questions [IMG]
