I've introduced myself on the Due Date Club, but not here yet. I've been lurking for some time. My name is Kim and I'm 22w6d pregnant with boy/girl twins. This site has been such a help, I love it.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting is that I need some reassurance. I had some very slight spotting last week, and my OB asked me to come in after my growth check on Monday morning. At the growth check, everything was fine. Babies were great, 1lb 3 oz and 1lb 4 oz. My cervix was a little over 3 cm as well. Well, I went to my OB, and she checked my cervix, and was not happy to find that it was softer than she'd like, but no dilation or funneling. She told me that I'm on bedrest for at least the rest of this week, and then had me go to labor and delivery to see if I was contracting. Well, it turns out that I was (I had no idea!), so they gave me some medicine for the contractions and admitted me for observation for 24 hours. The contractions have stopped (thank goodness) so I get to go home today. All in all, I'm so scared and worried. My DH was really freaking out, and I was trying to stay calm for my babies and for him. I just want to keep these babies safe and with me for as long as possible. And all this came as a complete shock that I'm still trying to process now.

I just thought I'd post to see if anyone had any similar experiences. Sometimes it just helps to get it out. Thanks for listening.

exact same thing minus the spotting happened to me at 23wks. admitted for 3 days, monitored, sent home on procardia and had weekly transvag u/s to check my cervix. i never dilated, but it was a bit shorter and softer than he liked. i spent the next 7 weeks on bedrest and each week my cervix was the same, no changes. i did deliver early but not from pre-term labor. got pre-e out of nowhere, but if i hadnt i bet i would have gone to at least 35wks. i had constant contractions that the procardia didn't really do much for, but it never changed my cervix and im pretty sure the shortening of my cervix was just from the babies' weight. in the end they told me i had an irritable uterus and thats why it was contracting so much. id be irritated if i was my uterus too though :) just rest alot, dont get up unless you have to (i know its boring!!), and keep your bladder empty and the water flowing. feel better and PM if you need to!!

    is your cervix still 3cm??
and where they contractions or "irritable uterus"?? did they give you terb????

i only ask this because i have been going to labor and deliver or triage since about week 24 with "irritable uterus". i've had the terb shot 4 times and it doesn't help that much. i mean it gets better but then they come back, the contractions i mean...and they are ROUGH....BUT my cervix is still intact and everything else is checking normal.

what they may do is put you on a terb type medicine that you take every couple of hours while at home or in the hospital on bedrest to keep the contractions at bay....they are thinking they may do this with me.

and the spotting...was that after an exam? sometimes spotting can occur after an exam, it's nothing to worry about.

at any rate i hope things get better and that everything stays in tact....you are almost there!!!

    big hugs and good luck!!

I believe it's after 24 weeks that they can give the steriods shots to you for the babies lung development. I would ask your doc about that if things don't change. I got my shots at 31 weeks. Have been on bedrest since 28 weeks and have been taking procardia every 8hrs for the last the past 3-4 weeks for contractions. I've made it to 35.1 weeks, so anything is possible.
Drink TONS of water and stay off your feet!!!
    You can do it!!!!

I'm so sorry that you've had this scare. I do think it's somewhat common in multiples pregnancies. I had a bad car accident at 22 weeks and started contracting. My cervix softened and they stopped labor with tributaline (I think that was it) and kept me for observation for a few days. I realize my circumstances were different in the cause, but they did stop labor and I carried just fine until 36 weeks. However, I was very careful about laying low. I stayed on modified bed rest for the duration and I drank 100 ounces of water a day ( a bit crazy looking back...but I was terrified and water seemed to do the trick to stop ctx).

Try not to worry. Explain to DH that you need him to be strong and sane for the two of you. Hang in there!

Thank you all for your words of encouragement. So far, so good. My contractions have stopped, and my DH is being very strict with my bedrest, but he is also being absolutely wonderful with helping out. All of the words of encouragement have been great.
