I need some protein snack ideas. We usually do cheese sticks and peanut butter, but it's getting too repetitious. It seems like all the healthy snack options are carbs, like crackers, fruit, veggies sticks. What protein snacks do you feed your kids?

Yogurt, smoothies that I make with an over ripe frozen banana and yogurt, home made granola bars with PB and almonds. Obviously these snacks have carbs too, but the protein/carb mix is supposed to be good!

deli turkey or ham is a good protein - I've seen it wrapped around celery sticks or apples...

hard boiled eggs is a good snack.
I usually let my girls have a carb snack and focus on the protein with their meals.

    Cream cheese!

Put it on graham crackers or smear some on a slice of deli ham, roll it into a tube, the slice into 1/2 inch pieces. Or, put some in celery sticks.

Kashi brand crackers, etc. have more protein than a lot of others. Also soy crisps (often found near the rice cakes) have quite a lot of protein.

We generally have carb snacks too (though sometimes we have Power Bars and the like -- those have lots of protein), but at daycare they have to have protein with every meal & snack. Sometimes they have cheese or yogurt -- sometimes it will be apples and a turkey slice, or crackers and ham.

My girls love a combo of peanuts and raisins in a baggie - their own little trail mix. The raisins get a little salty and add some sweetness - I love it too.

    Best,

Inside out turkey sandwich. Wrap a slice of cheese and a slice of turkey around a soft breadstick or pretzel. You can add mustard or what ever you like and of course can substitute different meats.

Hummis in a mini whole wheat pita pocket. You can add cheese to this or cucumbers are really good.

Kids Clif bars. They are a kid friendly version of the adult protein bars, I ate the adult version a lot when I was pregnant. I saw these at our supermarket (Wegmans) in the organic foods isle. I will be buying these when the babies get a few more teeth.

Tofu is always good. They also have some that are flavored. My kids love it.

    Nuts are high in protein.

I also love smoothies. Add a banana to yogurt and milk or soy milk and blend. I like to add a little vanilla and cinnamon. This is also fun frozen.

Ants on a log. Put peanut butter in celery and add a few raisins. If they prefer use cream cheese.

That is all I can think of at the moment. I will post more if I can think of any. You can also google it.

I discovered that my boys looove pepitas (often just referred to as pumpkin seeds). They are the green pumpkin seeds (actually pumpkin seeds without the white hull). You can toast them yourself - they are flat but in a frying pan or oven they puff up and get crunchy in about a minute - but my bulk food store sells them already toasted. They have tons of protein.
