Just wondering when I should start buying 3T clothes. My girls are now wearing 24 mos and 2T clothing. I am just starting to buy 2T as the 24 mos don't seem like they will last too long although I'm not sure of the difference between 24mos and 2T? Is 2T just longer?

How old were your kids approximately when they started wearing 3T? My girls are on the heavier side (around 28lbs) and 33.5 inches long at their 18mo check up which was almost 2 months ago.

My oldest was in 3T when she was just over 2. She's big, 95% for everything since birth. She was in 18-24 months her real first summer, 2T her second winter (1 1/2 years old) and then 3T for her next summer (a little over 2). She's now 3 1/2 and basically in 5T and/or XS (4-5). She was 31lbs7oz and 35 3/4 inches at age 2 and 39lbs and 40 1/2 inches at age 3 (the average of a 4 1/2 year old).

My twins will be 3 in January and wear 3T in tops, but one girl still fit 2T in pants. They have only gained about 2 pounds since they turned 2 and can still wear most of their clothes from last year. They are 30 and 32 pounds, and one is shorter then the other.Amy

My kids will be three in March. They have been in a 3T almost since they were 2. Hannah is tall and Ben is thick and has a long torso. At two Hannah weighed 28 pounds and Ben weighed 36-ish.

They grow much less between 2 and 3 than between 1 and 2. Mine are small for their age (about a year behind sizewise; we are just a runty family), so they will turn 5 in 3 weeks and mostly wear size 4 right now. They wore size 3 at age 4. I think they put on about 2 lbs and 2 inches between 2 and 3. My boys were average size, but they also did not grow much between 2 and 3.

I think we have been in 3T for the better part of the year. Ryan does wear 4T shirts since this summer, but that is because he has a long torso and long arms.

for what it's worth - i have tall and normal weight kids - you can see their stats in my siggie - cameron at 2 was 50th % in weight at 75th % in height and alisha was 50th% in weight and 90th% in height. they wear mostly 2T but still fit in a lot of 24month stuff although some of it is too short in sleeves (and all is too short in length for alisha). they have some 3T stuff also that is hand me downs or that i've gotten on sale and it is WAY too big for them. i'm assuming they will wear 3T next summer (they turn 3 in august) but definitely not this winter.

My boys will be 2 in two weeks and they mostly wearing 3T's now...I think they are just a bit bigger in the waist and longer.

Yikes -- mine hardly grew at all between 1 and 2! They can still fit into a few 12m size clothes that they wore last winter.

I just don't buy clothes ahead of time -- it pains me to miss the end-of-season sales, but it's just too risky.

My girls are big - they were 35"-36" and 30 lbs at their 2 yr appt. Depending on the brand, they are wearing 2T or 3T, even some 4T shirts in brands that run small, like Sonoma (Kohl's). They seem to have long torsos and short legs (like me), so sometimes the 3T shirts fit better because they cover their tummies. 3T pants are too long, in general. They can still wear some of the 24month/2T stuff from last winter. I have been buying 3T stuff for next winter. I hope it will fit!

You can get away with buying tops a bit bigger because they will last longer. I find that we are still in 2T pants and 3+ in shirts. It drives me nuts when the shirt "just" fits!

    Good luck!

We definitely mostly grew UP this year -- we've gotten taller but haven't gained much weight. We are just now starting to transition to size 3T. Anything new, I am buying in 3T, but they are still able to wear a good amount of their 24M and 2T stuff from last winter (especially stuff that's in stuff that tends to run big on my girls, like Gymboree).

Both kids wore 2Ts for the longest time (for over a year). The 2Ts were big in the beginning. Then, within the last month both seemed to suddenly shoot up, but especially DD. I just noticed one day that she looked like she was ready for a flood. Not sure when that happened since I swore she could wear those same clothes just a few weeks ago :). My kids have been around the 90 percentile in weight and height. At our 3 year checkup last week though DD was only 65 percentile for weight and 90 percentile for height. So, she really did get taller all of a sudden -- I didn't imagine it! 3Ts are none too long though a little loose in the waist. Might have to look at 4Ts!

My dd didn't seem to grow that much from 2-3 she was in 24 mos/2T for over a year...but not in 3T that long, she was in 3T from about 33 mos to 39 mos and then jumped to 4T practically overnight

My oldest son grew 12 inches, yes - 1 whole foot, between the ages of 1 and 2. My daughter only grew 5 inches. Between the ages of 2 and 3 Dave outgrew 2 sizes worth of clothing. Emma was able to wear all her 2T stuff until a few weeks ago. Now she seems to have shot up like a weed.

Some kids grow a lot and others only grow a little. It's kind of a gamble to buy ahead until they're over the age of 3. They can hit those growth spurts and take off like crazy or they'll stay the same size forever!

My girls are 2.5 and wearing mostly 3T...but that is mainly b/c they are so darn tall. They are both 90-95% for height...but barely 50% for weight. So, I HAVE to get 3T pants with adjustable waist...or they won't fit at all. The smaller sizes are TOO short, but 3T without adjustable waist just falls off of them.

I am actually looking forward to summer weather next year...they could probably go back to 2T to fit in shorts...lol!

Mine have mostly been growing (height wise) since their second birthday...at 2 they both weighed 26-27 lbs. (can't remember - see ticker)

My girls are 22 months old and just grew out of some 6-9 month clothes. They are mainly in 12 months clothes right now. They are currently 21 and 22 pounds. I bought ahead last year so I have boxes of 2T clothes that don't fit. I really hope they grow more than 2 pounds over this next year.
