Okay so last night I kept dreaming about being in the hospital and who was gonna watch my kids and all that good stuff so I need some advice or at least guidance. For those who have had a c section before how long were you in the hospital and how long before you could lift things after you got out? I'm just worried about lining up some help for the kids. Also ......what are your plans for when you are in the hospital.... Who is watching your kids and who if anyone is helping you when you get home....and for how long....just curious. Also How many days is your dh planning on taking off work and what day of the week is the best to schedule the c section.....thanks......I know this is a lot of questions but I need to get all my ducks in a row and my hormones are going crazy today.

I'm so sorry you are stressed. That is no fun at all. My Mom and Dad are coming up a bit before the baby is born and will be the ones to watch the twins. I am going for a VBAC, so hopefully I won't be in the hospital for five days. My parents will be staying for probablly two weeks after the baby is born, more if I ask my Mom too. My in-laws will probablly come up right after the birth and then again after my Mom leaves, so I am looking at probablly three weeks of help post-partum and DH is also taking two weeks off around the time the baby is due. I didn't have a scheduled c-section with the twins and I don't remember the recovery being that bad. I was nursing and holding the twins an hour after surgery and only on Ibuprofen when I got home from the hospital. However, my Mom was also my cleaning fairy, who cleaned my house while I slept, so I wasn't doing any lifting besides the babies for almost a month. Good Luck getting everything set. I hope it will give you some peace of mind.

My hospital is 45 minutes to an hour away so when the babies were born my mom and ds stayed in a hotel close by so they could visit at all hours. This time, dh and all the kids will stay in the hospital with me until bed time then they go to the hotel and I'll stay by myself at night. I went in on Friday and was home by Sunday. I was able to drive by Wednesday and shop by that Friday but ds was 7 so I didn't have to lift him anyway.

Yep, it's a lot to think about and plan for when you already have little ones. Here's my experience.

I stayed in the hospital for 3 nights and the girls went to daycare during the day. DH took of 2 of the 3 days that I was in the hospital and then he took off another week when we came home. As for lifting, it was a good two to three weeks before I could lift anything more than the baby (7lbs.). The girls continued to go to daycare until Jax was about 3 weeks old and after that they were all home with me. Jax was born in the summer, so luckly my neice was able to come over during the day to help me with the girls since it still wasn't a good idea to be lifting them. I think my dr. told me it would be about 4 weeks before I should even attempt it. Better safe than sorry because an incision that opens up is NOT a good thing.

I purposely scheduled my c/s on a Wednesday this time. That way, the girls and Jax will be in daycare during the day and we'll be home in time for the weekend. Hopefully, DH will take the next week off. Of course, this is the PLAN, but we all know babies have their own so hopefully this works out!

My kids stayed with DH's parents - I went in the hospital Wednesday for the c-section and came home on Friday evening.
DH went back to work Monday morning. and I drove myself to the dr. Monday afternoon (with both babies) alone.
I don't recommend my way!! I would have the kids stay with relatives, beg to stay in the hospital for the maximum time my insurance would allow and insist DH take some time off!

Since I don't think I am going to make it to my scheduled c-section 1/31 we are punting while I am in the hopsital. I don't want DH taking time off while I am in the hospital. After I am released, DH will take a week off and then I have arranged for my parents and my in-laws to help me for 2 weeks after that. Since I cannot drive I need someone to chauffer my childern to their activities.

My kids are older so the lifting issue isn't an issue. However, my friend has 2.5 yr old twins and just had a baby. She started lifting them minimally around a month and was fine.

I understand your panic! I was having terrible dreams last week and DH thinks I am nuts right now with trying to "plan" things.
