Have your children ever gotten a fever with immunizations?

Mine never have except this last time. They got their shots (5 [IMG]) on Tuesday and still have a fever. I called the doc office, but since the fever is still low grade the nurse said to bring them in on Monday if they stil have it. However, the nurse said that there is a chance that it could be something other then the fever since their injection sites show no streaking or swelling around the site. I am such a worry wart, would you take them in if they were your babies?

My oldest son did get a fever at his one year. We were told just to give him Tylenol.

With your little ones, if you are worried, take them in. It is better to be safe than sorry. With my little guys, I watch them very closely, because we can't afford another hospital visit. It could be something minor like an ear infection. How are they eating? If they are being fussy when they eat, it likely is an ear infection. Monitor their behavior, and if you see something out of the ordinary, take them in. My first pediatrician knew I was a worry wart, but always checked my oldest out very carefully. It may take up time and the hassle of getting out the door, but it will make you feel better.

My ped says to expect a fever for about 24 hours. That said, around our 6 month shots we had a fever for the first 24 hours, ok no problem. Then continued for a few more days...guess what...they picked up a bug while in the dr office. Never really any high fevers just ended up with cold like symptoms and ear infections!

If you are worried, make them see them today. Who wants to have a sick weekend!

I just replied to your other post asking you how they did with getting their shots. I didn't see this post yet. I am so sorry Ben and Emily are running a fever [IMG]. I haven't had a problem with fever and immunizations but just wanted to send them a great big [IMG]. I hope they feel better soon.

So sorry they don't feel well. Yes, a fever is a common reaction. Mine all get/got fevers. In fact, we got 6 month shots yesterday and have low grade fevers today. But, I also think they may have picked up something (cold) while there if they still have a fever. If the shot site isn't red or swollen, it's probably not still from that (all my older children reacted to every shot- red, swollen hard balls under the shot pricks. One even had to have the antibiotics due to his reaction).

My guys had a low grade fever for a week after their 4 month shots. Since they weren't showing any other signs of a bad reaction, I just kept giving them Tylenol and made sure they had a nice warm bath every afternoon. [IMG] I hope your little ones feel better soon, having 2 crabby babies is terrible!

Our guys had their 4-month shots this morning and were a bit feverish and VERY cranky by bedtime. Apparently they're more likely to react to the 4-month shots because these are boosters, so they've developed antibodies to the vaccinations now. Our dr. was saying that we can expect even more of a reaction from the MMR and chickenpox vaccines which they get at 12 months, since those are live vaccines. I have to keep reminding myself that vaccinations are a good thing - they're so stressful on us all!

Mine had their 4 month shots last week. They have never had problems with shots before. However, Gavin had 101 fever the next day and was so cranky. I took him into the pedi that day and she said he was fine, it was the shots. By day 2 he was over it. I get so paranoid with anything that happens to them, but I think this is really common for 4 month shots.

When my six year old had his 12 month shots - he had a fever for 10 days and ended up with spots all over him. I took him to the Dr and they said he had a mild case of the measles fromt he MMR. I didn't even know that could happen.

The twins had their shots on a friday, Monday morning they still had a low grade fever and were very screamy.

Let us know what is up. I hope they feel better soon! I can't believe they are already four months!
