I make a mean crab alfredo and was planning on making it tonight. I would love to give it to the girls for dinner, but I'm unsure if would be safe. Neither of my girls have any allergies to food, and I've introduced everything except shellfish and honey. Not sure if imitation crab has shellfish in it or not, I know its mostly cod fish. What do you ladies think, ok or hold off? TIA

I've given my guys imitation crab from the time they could eat finger food. It's just fish and it's actually surprisingly healthy at that. I would give it to them. I find it's a great snack food on it's own. Crab alfredo sounds yum!

Ummm... I happen to have artificial lobster chunks in the fridge and I looked at the ingredient list. It's mostly pollock but does contain a small amount of lobster meat, and "extracts of crab, oyster, scallop, shrimp, and fish". The allergy information that follows says it contains fish, shellfish, milk, and soy. I don't know if the crab is the same way but I suspect it is.

If it's mostly fish it's probably healthier than crab.

I think imitation crab is mostly various whitefish, like cod, pollock, etc. Mine have had real crab (hey, we're in MD!) and have been fine. We have no family history of any food allergies. Our doc gave us the OK for all usual allergy suspect foods at 12 months.

Thank you everyone. I went ahead and gave them a little bit, they loved it. I couldn't put it on the tray fast enough. They didn't have any reaction to it, thank God. I guess we are in the clear as far as imitation crap is concerned. :)
