I'm worried...

Currently my girls are eating about 3-4 ounces every 3 hours (almost 4 months, 3 months adjusted). They have just started to drop a feeding but it is not consistent enough, so they are eating between 7-8 times a day. After they eat they are only able to stay awake about 45 minutes- 1 hour before they start to show tired signs.

I guess I am worried because I see that other babies are eating about 5-6 ounces and are staying awake about 1.5-2 hours.

I do have a scale at home and check their weights. At their 2 month appt they were 8.2 and 9.13 and now they are at 10.2 and 11.6 so only about a 2 pound growth in 2 months, a pound a month isn't that too little?

My Babies slept all the time until about 4 months. DD ate 2-3 oz up until then. At about 4 months she moved to 4 oz and then to 5.
she was born at 5 lbs 11 oz and now she is 16 lbs. she is almost 9 months. So my DD is gaining about 1 lb a month. They do go thru growth spurts where they will gain 2 lbs in a month or no lbs in a month.

I think you babies are fine.. Just give them time! Remember they are still just 3 months old.. (even though they are almost 4 months :) )

That sounds like how much mine were awake at that time. If they are eating 7-8 times a day, I think that is normal, every 3 hours. Sounds like you are doing fine. Dont' second guess yourself.

If I were you, I would just give a quick call to my pediatrician and tell her about the weights.

It was much earlier than your guys, but my DD slept a lot in the beginning/didn't eat as much as DS, and those were actually warning signs that she wasn't thriving. I didn't catch them and felt terrible.

And checking the wet and dirty diapers should give you a good clue about how much they're processing.

Two lbs. in two months, sounds great to me. But if you're concerned, a quick phone call would probably help you feel better.

At four months my boys were only eating 3-4oz to and were about 11 and 12 pounds they also were only up for about 45min or so. They were earlier then yours and probably smaller but they were drinking neosure so they were getting extra calories even though they were drinking so little.

To me it sounds like your girls are doing fine but you could always check in if your worried.

I think that sounds good. My babies are almost 7 months (6 adj) and only take a 6oz bottle. Sometimes I can get 7 out of them. They only get 4-5 bottles now. I think 1lb a month is good.

My girls are 5 months (almost 3 adjusted). One only eats 4 oz. at a time and only 5-6 bottles a day. The other eats 6 oz. 5-6 times a day, but she spits up a lot of it. They have a few times where they are awake 1.5-2 hours, but most times they sleep for quite a while after eating. I think your description sounds normal.

My two were very sleepy until about 3.5 months. They were also small(compared to my older kids anyway) eaters, taking at the most 4-5 ounces all the way up until they were 8 months old. I had them on a 3 hour schedule until 8 months.

they are perfect and right on track IMO. Every baby is different and every family is different. It is right that they would want to sleep a lot at 4 months old. I think the longest ours were going was 2 hours or so before a melt-down. Often people think their babies are hungry but really they are tired, IMO. You are doing great.

On a side note, I wasted (still do) a lot of time early on worried about weight gain/development ect. Really in the end every baby is different and I am finally realizing that it is better to not compare. You will know if there is really something wrong the whos-who of development/size/sleep is really sometimes a smoke screen. A co-worker said her baby was STTN. Upon being pressed a little her DH said "well, there isn't a night we aren't up a couple times". So people don't always tell the whole story!

Try to enjoy each stage they really do change so fast. I sort of miss the times you are in when they were sit still and cuddle a little!

BTW - we BF but when we give bottles ours will still only take 5 oz or so at a feeding.

I would call your pedi and voice your concerns. I too was caught up with weight gain with DD because she is a peanut. She is almost 8 months and only 15 lbs! Our pedi isn't concerned and says that she is gaining weight just slowly and she is developing ahead of schedule so it isn't a point to worry.

My boys were the exact same way, they stayed up a little longer but not much. At that age though they were eating about the exact same amount. As long as they are gaining weight I really wouldn't worry about it. It sounds like they are getting between 28-32oz per day and that to me sounds right on track. :)

At 4 months my DD was still eating every two hours and 3 ounces. She just now at 8 months started going 3 hours or more between feedings and she eats 7 ounces now. Both of mine never stayed awake more than 1 hour or 1 hour 15 min. at that age.
