Our twins were born at 38 weeks, 3 days via scheduled c section. Johnny weighed 6 lb, 15 oz and Zoe weighed 5 lb, 8 oz. They had a little trouble gaining weight at first, but that was b/c my milk wasn't coming in like it should've. Since then, they've been fine. But seems like lately every kid I see that's younger than them is almost the same size!! Just now I got an email from a good friend who's 4 mos old is already 18 lbs......mine will be a year old in 2 weeks and they only weigh a pound more! They just got weighed & Johnny was 19 lb, 12 oz and Zoe was 19 lb, 8 oz.

We had our WIC appt, and I did ask about their size & she said they were fine. "On the petite side", but ok. Still, I can't help wondering ..... am I not feeding them enough or something?? They have their 1 yr check up with the pedi pretty soon & I'll ask him, too. The other thing I was going to ask was, since they are on the small side, should I continue giving them formula a little longer than normal?

My guys are "petite" (or as I like to say "midget-saurus rex's") They sound fine to me. As long as they are happy and healthy and your pedi isn't concerned then all is well. I'm kind of torn about keeping my guys on formula too after they reach a year old, I did notice the other day at the grocery store that they have formula for older babies (12m+). I think I'll discuss it with my pedi just to be on the safe side. Sorry, I'm just rambling now, lol!

Sophie weighs 16lb 4 and Jack weighs 22 lb 13!! My friends baby who is 6 months younger than my 2 weighs 15lb so is catching up on Sophie fast. The doctors are keeping an eye on her as her weight has dropped of the curve she was following a bit but im not concerned. I think she is just going to be small. I am going to continue Sophie with formula for a little while longer but i think Jack may be ready to switch soon. I wouldnt worry to much as babies develop at their own rate but do discuss it with your doctor as he can put your mind at rest x

at 10.5 mos my daughter was 15 lb 3 oz and my son was 17 lb 14 oz - and they were 3.5 and 4.5 at birth (at 36 weeks)...I have friends with 4 month olds BIGGER than my daughter and I don't worry about it - she is petite - my son is 100% muscle - that kid doesn't have a fat roll on him and you know what I like it that way

I ditto Jenny's post about happy and healthy. As long as the pedi thinks they are growing okay, they are fine! Every baby grows at a different pace. It's hard not to compare to other people, but you really can't. Look at all the different sized people in the world. My niece was 18 lbs. at one year old. She is 7 and her sister is 5 and weighs a 1/2 pound less.

I know how you feel and I think if the ped isn't worried then it's okay. I have a friend {seems to be the trend, huh?} that has a son 4 months younger and he is bigger then my two. My son just got to 20lbs and dd is right under 20 and now they are also crawling, so that isn't helping. I often wonder if I am feeding them enough, but they seem to be gaining, happy and healthy..plus, they won't anymore then they want. My ds is like Amyntony's son, more muscle then fat! Please try and not worry, I know it's easier said then done. :hug99:

I wouldn't worry at all about your babies weigts! My dd7 was 19lbs at one year and I switched her to whole milk after she was a year and now she's very thin, but very tall at 7yrs! I think they'll grow at their own rate and will not have any problems especially if they are healthy and staying on the same growth curve. Some babies are bigger than others just like some adults are bigger than others. My twins and my ds4 are/were all big for their age and they are fine. My ds4 is pretty tall, and just now slimming down. I'm sure my girls will do the same. I know it's hard not to worry, but they'll be fine. HTH![/size]

Their weights are just fine, should probably fall in the 25-50th percentile. Don't worry!! My girls were 18lb10oz and 18lb15.5oz at their 12 month appointment and in the 10-25th percentile and perfectly healthy. And their weight gain slowed way, way down when they became mobile. But in the last week they've both gained well over half a pound - eating like mad babies!

I am happy they are on the smaller side than the larger, the way people talk today about childhood obesity so much! And since mine were preemies they caught up very well.

i think theire size is okay. from looking at your ticker your babies are just a week or so older than mine . mine were both weighed at wic last week and caden was 18 lbs 6oz and caleb was only 16 lbs 4 oz. yes caleb is in the 10th perc. while caden is in the 90th somehow lol. mine were born at 31 wks though and only weighed 3.5 and 3.6 at birth. but i think theire fine. if ur comcerned i would tlk to the pedi. my pedi did recomend keeping caleb on his neosure until 15mths since they were premiees, just for the extra calories. so i would just ask ur pedi what she recomends.

Healthy babies come in all shapes and sizes! My dd was 17 lbs at 6 months. But then only 19 lbs at one year!! She is still petite at 47 inches and 48 lbs at 7! I was psyched because she fit into her Roudabout carseat until 5@@. HTH :)

My girls are little too. At 12 months one was just barely 20 lbs, and the other was not quite 21 lbs. I think they were 35th and 45th percentile. As long as your kids stay on their own growth curve they're fine. Someone has to be the 5th or 10th percentile, right?! :)

Mine had a bit more to catch up, but at 12 months Emilie was 16 lbs. 13 oz. and Trevor was 19 lbs. 9 oz. I'm hoping they have gained some since, but who knows since they are walking and that is all they do all day. Anyway, they have always been on the small side. Emilie has never been on the charts at all, but pedi isn't worried. She eats more than than Trevor and is happy and healthy. Trevor was in the 12% at 12 months, again never been worried as he eats and is happy.

I think as many PP's have said babies come in all shapes and sizes and if they are happy and healthy then that is important too. Some babies don't put on weight very fast and that is okay.

My boys were born at 38 weeks and 1 day at 5lbs 4oz and 5lbs 7 oz. And, at their 12 month checkup, one was 17lbs 14oz and the other 17lbs 12oz. I totally know what you mean about comparing your babies to babies that are a little younger; they're all bigger than the twins. But, I agree with PPs too, as long as they are eating, happy, and active, then they're probably just growing at their own rate. My Pedi thinks their weights are fine as long as they're following their own growth curve (3-5th percentile for us). But, I still want to do what I can to encourage their growth. So, I have kept them on formula since turning 1. We've used Enfamil Next Step and then Good Start 2, formula for 9-24mos. But, mainly because of cost, I started mixing in whole milk to slowly transition.
So, feel better, your twins are bigger than mine. ;)
Just talk it out with your Pedi and see if he has any concerns or recommendations for you.
