I'm sooo not ready for this

I am NOT a potty-pusher. However, the boys have been quite enthralled with the potty for the last 3 months or so. "Mommy's going pee-pee" became a family event. .

So, about a month ago Nick started purposefully holding his urine until bath time. EVERY single night the second I placed him in the tub he would stand up, say pee-pee, look down at his penis, and "summon" his urine. I'm convinced this is a result of his fascination with watching mommy/daddy.

Tonight after his bath he told me he wanted to use the potty, so I put held him over the toilet. He kept saying pee-pee and looking down for it (he even let out long 'relief' sighs like DH does for dramatic effect when they're watching him  ), but it never happened (i will admit I didn't wait that long).

I don't want to be an idiot and ignore these signs if he's really ready (i know Joe is NOT). However, I really don't think I can handle potty trainining for 18 consecutive months.

Yeah, wouldn't it be just awful if one was trained at 2?!

We did many months of occasional practice and it wasn't stressful at all. Their interest would wax and wane but we're rarely pooping anywhere but the potty anymore and I believe they really could be day trained if I pushed it. I think one day they'll decide they would prefer to wear the cute little underpants I put in a drawer for them to find and we'll really go for it then.

Oh, and never underestimate the power of imitation. When one does something, the other may suddenly decide he wants to as well.

Siri, you might as well try to capitalize on it!! We had interest at 18 mos. and it went away. We go on occasion now, but it's nothing consistent. (But I haven't just dedicated days to doing it either!!)

My dd is showing some interest, too (18 mos). I asked the physical therapist about it while she was here this morning.....I was worried that if I did do a little potty training, it would take away from her learning to walk. She said go for it, though! She's kind of off & on interested, though. They both are still fascinated whenever I go....gone are the days of peeing alone!

    Thanks for the feedback, ladies.

After reading these, and a few other topics in this forum, I think I'll get a potty at Xmas and just take their ques when they ask and if it materializes into something more, so be it. I am just not ready to dhandle anything beyond what they initiate at this stage.
