I have PPD so I am on anti-depressants and Xanax until they kick in. I take 1 mg in the morning and in the eveing. I AM SO TIRED!
I drink a double shot in the morning to get me moving, but I fell asleep yesterday in class! ( I teach) The kids (high school) were working on a paper so they were so quiet and well.... I just couldn't help it. I am wondering in there is a pic of me on Facebook, sleeping at my desk. My head would nod and I would jerk awake!

Any tips? I can't drink too much caffeine, or I get a panic attack!

    It's probably the Xanax.... :)

Are you able to tolerate a lower dose? That's a fairly decent dose, especially if you're not used to taking it. That's something I'd definitely talk to the doc about (you don't want to abruptly stop taking it). But I'd definitely talk to the doc.

    GL!

Sounds like it's the Xanax. Plus the depression. Depression will make you exhausted. Like pp said, you might want to adjust the dosage of the Xanax.

I know there's never enough time, but exercise is a wonderful stimulant AND de-stressor. Even if it's only 10 minutes of brisk walking in fresh air, it might really help wake you up. Exercise is also great for treating depression - I made it an essential "medicine" when I was battling PPD.

:hug99: Big hugs to you. Depression is a monster - I hope you get relief soon!

I know it is the xanax, I have been on it since last July! But I had weaned myself off of it however the prozac didn't work so now I am on Lexapro or something like that, and the Dr upped my dose of xanax so I wouldn't have any problems as my body switched drugs. I still have bad days, and although I know there is some depression there, it is the panic attacks I can't handle. So until my new meds start to work and we know they work, I will be on xanax.

I try to get up and keep moving, easy at home! Laundry alone will keep me alert. However at work, when it is quiet and the kids are actually working, and I am typing at the computer, I just zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What do you teach? Can you open a window or the door and get some fresh cold air and natural light even for a few seconds to help keep you awake?

I teach high school French. I am in the basement so no windows. That bites. However usually I will talk to my kids to help keep me awake, and of course usually I am teaching, but the last few days they have been working on a paper and have been very intent on it. (wow!) So I have been hesitant to break their conversation.

It was so funny, I was on this web site this morning and I was having the same problem! Not that you all aren't interesting ;-) but it was so hard to keep awake!

try a higher protein diet until you can take a lower dosage of the the xanax. if you eat a lot of carbs, that contributes to the tiredness. i know that i could barely function when i took xanax for a few days, because i was so tired from it.

    good luck!

I feel for you and hope it gets better soon. I hate the whole anti-depressent thing and the amount of med switching it takes to find the right one. How exciting to think that you may feel so much better once the new med starts to do its job. I don't know what to say about staying awake but try to stay positive by thinking that soon you will feel soooo different once your new med kicks in!

*Do you have a podium or something you can put your computer on so that you can stand while you are on the internet?

No, no podium, and it is a PC not a laptop.

I can't wait to feel better! I just want to know when, kind of like morning sickness, if I just knew WHEN I would feel better I could talk my way though the bad spots.

Has your dr checked your thyroid? My sister was exhausted after the birth of her twins and they were also sttn, but she couldn't get enough sleep. Turns out her thyroid was underactive (hypothroidism) she's on meds and it's made all the difference. They say that after pregnancies your body can have a difficult time regulating hormones... Good luck!
