    Hello bedrest girls!

I'm new and gosh I was hoping I wouldn't have to go on bed rest. I'm considered on moderate BR so to say- To tell you
a little bit about my prego self- I'm almost 21 weeks carrying identical girl twins. I found out last week that my
cervix was 4.6 and is now 3.6 (in 2 weeks). If it gets lower than 2.5 they will have to do a cerclage on me. Today the
OB sounded like he wanted to avoid that as much as possible because he said complications could arise. I'm seeing a
specialist and OB 1 week now. I am being watched, but I hear things can get worse quick. Anyone with advice?
I also found out that I have a mild case of TTTS, that's a whole other deal..... aghhhhhh.....

I just answered your other question too before I saw this post :) 3.6 is actually a pretty good cervical length, they are prob just worried if it keeps going down consistently. It's good they are keeping a close eye on things for you just to make sure! What seemed to help my situation is that my Baby A was breech for awhile taking the pressure off my cervix. My OB said that alone may have kept the babies in longer. Hang in there!! I haven't dealt with TTTS to give any advice there, but I know a lot of the other girls on here may have some advice for you. :)

When I went to the OB yesterday, he totally scared me about sowing me up if he had too! He said I could have
complications. Do you think it's because I have identical twins? They say identical twins have more complications?
    Tomorrow is the specialist....

I had to be "sown up" with a cerclage due to my cervix going down to 2.8 and it wasn't that bad. Complications arise if it goes down lower than that. In the 2's it is still relatively safe and it works! I was on bedrest in the hospital on mag and terb for 8 weeks with continuous contractions pounding on my cerclage and it held all the way until 33 weeks when it finally broke. Don't freak out too much about it, hopefully you won't need it but if you do it can be a lifesaver for your babies. I definitely believe that it helped keep my babies cooking despite my body trying to get them out. Good luck

P.S. I know this is getting long but my advice to anyone on even modified bedrest is to take bedrest seriously, it is not rest at all, but rather a way for you do be still enough to give your babies extra time to develop and grow.
I was originally put on modified bedrest and due to having a two year old running around, initially probably didn't try hard enough to stay down, I regret not taking it seriously enough, but when I was rushed to hospital due to PTL then I really took notice! So good luck again and do your best to stay down as much as possible.

Mine was 2.8 at 19 weeks and by 20 weeks it went down to 1.8, while i was on bedrest at home. Then at week 21 it was .9. Needles to say i was admitted to the hospital at that appointment. Unfortunately it was too late for a cerclage even at week 19. My doctor said it was too dangerous and because it was already so short, would probaly not work anyway. I ended up having the twins at 24w 5d, in time to get the series of steroids.
So, take the bedrest seriously. I was very lucky and my twins are fine. They have done wonderfully and suffer no ill effects from the early delivery. But, that is not the norm for so early. Heed your docors orders and take it easy!

WOW!!! How amazing they made it! As I've posted on this site before, my friend had your situation but delivered at
26 1/2 weeks. But the boy did not make it. It's so crazy how your cervix can drastically change so fast. I'm eager
for my appt. tomorrow. I have been taking it easy. I do have a 2 yr old though. She's been great, but I have
to lift her sometimes. My Mom may come up soon to help, she lives 3 1/2 hrs away.

How much did your babies weigh? Fraternal or identical? I'm so happy for you that your babies made it. BIG HUG
TO YOU!!! :hug99: Is that the only complications you've had?

Did you see the specialist yet?
I too had cervix issues… it went from 2.9 to 2.5 than 2.2 and my specialist decided we may never know for sure if a Cerclage is the reason you make it, but not doing it and losing the twins outweighs the risks… that’s what MY specialist said to me in regards to MY situation… I did a lot of research and asking fellow TS moms as we had to make the decision fast… we were running out of time… now after my Cerclage it has lengthen to 4.4 (only 5 days after) at the last check, and I’m off modified bed rest… even though if I feel even slightly off… I run to bed for the rest of the day…keep us posted and I’m glad you’re being watched so closely…

From my understanding, it wasn't the sitting or lifting that was the problem. It was the actual "walking" that pounded pressure on the cervix and caused it to shorten. So, the more you can sit/lay down the better. Get as much help as you can and take it easy.
My ds was 1 lb 8 oz and dd was 1 lb 9 oz. They did excellent. They both had pda surgeries and dd had laser surgery to correct rop but now, they are just perfect! No other actual pregnancy complications. But then my whole situation was pretty unique. I contracted endocarditis during my c-section which doctors didn't catch for two months. I ended up having open heart surgery two weeks before my babies came home from the nicu to replace the mitral valve.....but thats a whole nother story....
