Hey ladies, the boys turned one last Saturday, so I'm joining some of my favorite TS Mamas over here.

We had the one year appointment yesterday and got the measles shot yesterday (no problems at all). The boys are doing great on their physical development; they run, walk, jump, dance, and climb like 1.5-2 year-olds, and they just shot way up on the growth curve. Somehow my little peewee Mark went from the 15% (and he's always been below 25%, usually 10%) to the 75% in three months; he grew 4 inches in 3 months. I was in shock :woah: . My boys have mostly been right in the middle (except Mark's height) of the curves, which I expected since DH and I are average height. Eli grew tremendously as well--he grew 3.25 inches; he's now at the 95% in height, and the 75% in weight. I guess they are making up for the 6 month grow spurt they never had.

On a less positive note the doctor said, they need to get at least 10 words, but the next appointment, or we have to get an evaluation. They make a bunch of sounds, and Eli sounds just like he's talking, but they just don't seem to connect words and objections or actions. They are improving drastically on taking commands, so I know they understand words, but I'm patiently waiting for them to actually use a owrd to describe something , and not just repeat what we say.

I've also got them on eating and sleeping much better. The eating improved dramatically after I took your suggestions a month ago, and cut down on their milk. Those little dudes, would drink a gallon of milk/formula a day if I let them. They eat most foods, and use their hands for almost everything. And the best thing of all, is that it seems that they are finally STTN--yes it took one year, and I da*n near lost my mind. And this seems for real, not like when I did CIO, and they woke at 5AM, now they wake at a reasonable time between 6-7.

I'm excited to join you hot mamas over here!! :D

Rachel, welcome to the Second Year! Yay for STTN :yahoo: . It sounds like they're doing great! Fingers crossed they won't need the evaluation - and if they do, you will know they are getting the help that they need  .

Wow, sounds like they are doing awesome :clapping: We haven't had our one year yet. They are really supposed to be saying 10 words by now? We are WAY behind.

Welcome - I know mine picked up a LOT on the words between 12 and 15 months, so I will not be surprised if your guys do the same! Congrats on survival of year one!

Honestly, I'm a little confused about what they mean by words. I know if I say certain things, the boys try to copy me, and what they say sounds vaguely like words; however, they just don't identify things using words. They don't use Dada and Mama to refer to us--they say that, but it's not clear they are referring to us.

Jargon maybe? I know that Alice and Royce speak to each other and copy each others' syllables but the words make no sense to me.

And happy birfdey boys! Welcome to SY!!

Yay, Rachel!! Glad you are over here now!! :)

Sounds like the boys are doing great - hooray for growth spurts and STTN (bigger hooray for that!)!!!

I also noticed a HUGE increase in word production between 12-15 months. Looking back, I think I missed some of my older DS's first words b/c I only counted it as a word when it was very obvious what he was saying...like he said "Dog" at 15 months and it sounded just like dog. With these two I started noticing their words much sooner I think b/c I realized that they were actually saying words like "Hello" (sounded like ey-o). Don't know if that makes sense or not.....

Way to go, they are doing awesome! 10 words by 15 months..really?? Mine only said mama and dada at 12 months and they are now saying maybe 2 or 3 more words. I guess they need to learn 7 more in the next month. Seems like a lot to me. :unknw:

:welcome: to the SY, Rachel! :birthday: Mark and Eli!
It sounds like they are doing wonderful! I am surprised that they are concerned about their words already...at 12 months neither of mine had 10 words in their vocab...now they are inching to about 20 each that they use frequently (and more that they say infrequently) and can recognize stuff we ask them to point out, even if they can't say the word. Like Jori said, our words took off between 12-15 months.
