I'm glad she likes books, but...

COME ON, do we have to read them 24/7?? Reagan loves books. Every night when I get home or on the days I stay home with them, that is ALL she wants to do. I enjoy the cuddle time b/c she has to be curled up in the crook of my arm with her book, but she just keeps getting them and bringing them over. AHHHH!!! Can't we play with something else. LOL! Her all time favorite is Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boynton. It cracks DH and I up b/c then know the word "cheek" and will take both fingers and point to their cheeks if you say, "Where's your cheeks?" Well, in the book it talks about the little chicks saying "Cheep, cheep, cheep!" Well, when I get to that point, they both start laughing and poking their cheeks. Crazy girls!!! I guess it is helping them both learn their animal sounds though....we know cluck, moo, neigh, baa. I just get sick of spending my entire night reading children's lit [IMG]

That's awesome that they love books. I really try to read to my girls, but they just fight and scream for the book the entire time. It's much easier if I read with one and my DS than having both of the girls with me. When I taught school, I could tell the children who were read to from the one's who weren't. They were so far ahead in vocabulary and comprehension.

Oh I know! Bea is the book crazy one here. Ainsley likes them too, but she's not as rabid about it. Bea brings us books and shoves them at us and I have to read the same one over and over. They got this huge books with pictures of various things and when I saw it, DH and I gave each other a look like "oh no!" DH will hide books he gets tired of reading behind the sofa cushions.

That is great that she likes it, but it would get tiresome after a while of doing it all the time. The boys will not let me read to them, they want to turn the pages or better yet rip out the pages, they can be so bad that way!!!

My youngest daughter is like this too. I get tired of reading books to her as well. I feel like sometimes I am trying to find something to do so I don't have to read books. My older son was like this too. He still to this day prefers books to any of his other toys.

[IMG] I totally understand. Just wait until they start picking longer books...

I wonder if it is the books she really likes or the cuddle time with mommy...or both?!

My kids LOVE books, but they like them a whole lot more when they are sitting in my lap to read them. [IMG]

Mine LOVE books! They've always liked them, but since about 18 months, they have been OBSESSED! Personally I think it's great! Often in the mornings, Natalie will want to bring a book with her in the car to daycare. I do remember that one time back in October when they were both sick and uber-clingy that I had to do a post-bedtime run to B&N to stock up on more book sbecause I was going to go CRAZY if I had to read any of those ever again! LOL!

Now the thing that I think is SO cute is when they "read" the books themselves -- Natalie esecially loves to sit on the couch with a book and "read" it aloud. This morning while I was getting Rita dressed, I heard Natalie in the playroom say, "ef-fant (elephant) book!" and when I looked in, she was sitting on the couch reading The Saggy Baggy Elephant: "dibba-dibba-doo EF-FANT! (turn page) Parrot! dabba-bippa-gamma EF-FANT! (turn page) Tiger! gleeba-tippa-bop EF-FANT! (turn page) Chomp chomp! (that's what a crocodile says [IMG]) dibba-doppa EF-FANT! (turn page) Tiger! zibba-dabba-glibby EF-FANT!"

It cracks me up! I love that they love to read. And I love the cuddle time, too -- it's pretty much the only time they'll sit in my lap at this point -- they are too busy otherwise. But YES, it does get a little exhausting sometimes, doesn't it???

I KWYM -- I try to be grateful that they like books (and I am!), but it does get a little tiresome. I am still liking the lap stage, though -- this is a pretty recent development for us, and it tickles me that she wants to sit on my lap, rather than constantly struggling to get away.

The good thing about reading a book you've read 32 million times already is that you don't have to actually look at it. You can stare out the window (since she's sitting on your lap, she can't tell what you're looking at) and think about something else, while reciting the words on autopilot.

Ours love books as well. My only complain is that they constantly want the same books to be read over and over. I try to keep a steady rotation of different books so that I don't go nuts.

Peyton is my book worm. She loves to sit on a lap and have a book read to her. We have tons of books here, but she still picks the same ones each time.

My girls do the same thing.
Sydney likes to bring us two books at a time.

I'm right there with you! My Abby is the same way. Barnyard Dance is also her favorite. DH and I have read it so many times that we can recite it from memory!

    Stomp your feet
    Clap your hands
Everybody ready for a barnyard dance?...

Argh! Make it go away!!!!!!! [IMG]

As I was cleaning up the play area tonight I started laughing when I saw the book! A small part of me wanted to hide it, but it is her favorite and it would probably be one of my favorite children's books too if I didn't have to read it 100 times a day. Overkill!!!!

Lol. Katelyn's favorite book is "Barnyard Dance" too and she loves the animal sounds. She will sometimes hold her cow and sheep from the farm set we have while we read it. Both girls love Sandra Boynton and "Barnyard Dance" was the overall fave for a while, but Jessica recently is preferring "Pajama Time." We read "Moo, Baa, La La La" before bed tonight because I've had enough of those other two books the last week while I've been home due to snow days.
